An America 250 flag was raised on one of the flagpoles outside Newtown Municipal Center last week.

Newtown Community Center Director Matt Ariniello, who has been given the task of coordinating local events to celebrate the country’s Semiquincentennial, had announced during the Newtown 250 meeting in May that the flag would appear at the beginning of this month. As promised, the America 250 flag was raised outside the southern entrance of the town’s governmental headquarters at 3 Primrose Street on June 1.

A Pride Month flag is currently flying on the flagpole on the opposite side of the building.

One of the largest local events to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of The Declaration of Independence is planned for June 26 at Dickinson Memorial Park. Readers are invited to enjoy live music, picnics, and family-friendly activities.
