Thank You, Newtown, For Supporting The Friends Of Newtown Seniors Inc (FONS) Shredding Event!

The FONS organization extends its sincere thanks to everyone who participated in our annual shredding event on June 6, and, most especially, to those who patiently waited in line.

For many years, our shredding event has successfully handled thousands of pounds of paper. However, during the past two years, participation has exceeded the capacity of the shredding truck. Despite our efforts, we were unable to secure a second shredding truck for this year's event.

The demand was extraordinary. The shredding equipment processed approximately ten boxes of paper every five minutes. The line eventually wrapped around the parking lot behind Edmond Town Hall. To ensure that those already waiting could be served, we were forced to close the line 75 minutes before our scheduled end of the event. Many participants waited more than an hour, and we truly appreciate their patience and understanding.

We are already taking the lessons learned from this year's event and planning improvements for next year. Our goal is to increase capacity and create a more efficient process. Plans include an express lane with small loads, as well as a separate area for those who wish to watch their documents being fed directly into the shredding equipment.

FONS extends a special thank you to Newtown Savings Bank and its outstanding staff for providing the shredding truck and assisting with traffic control. Their support and partnership are invaluable to the success of this event.

We also thank the Newtown High School students who volunteered to assist with the event. Their enthusiasm and hard work made a tremendous difference throughout the day.

Most importantly, thank you to the residents of Newtown for your continued support of FONS. We look forward to serving you again next year with an even better event.
