On Tuesday, June 9, Newtown Bridge Club held its tenth annual fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. Formerly known as “The Longest Day,” it has been renamed “Do What You Love to End Alz.” Over the past nine years, the club has raised over $110,000 to support those affected by this disease and their caregivers, and to advance the research efforts of the Association.

A total of 40 tables of enthusiastic Open and 299er bridge players played duplicate games in the morning and afternoon. The club will have additional fundraiser bridge games online. Contact Linda Dale Mulholland at lindadalem@gmail.com if someone is interested in playing on BBO or would like to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association via the local bridge club.

The companion Scrabble tournament will be held at Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield on Thursday, June 25. All levels of players, including casual players, are welcome. For information about this fundraising Scrabble tournament, contact Cornelia Guest at CorneliaSGuest@gmail.com or 914-772-6535.

Newtown Bridge Club holds three ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games every week at Edmond Town Hall, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 12:30 pm. In addition, bridge lessons are offered on a regular basis. For more information about the bridge club, contact Club Manager Susan Fronapfel at 203-733-8525 or visit the club’s website newtownbridge.org.
