Families United In Newtown Had A Busy October
Families United in Newtown (FUN) provides individuals with special needs, and their families, social opportunities in a caring environment through monthly themed meetings. Throughout the month of October, FUN members attended a soccer clinic at Newtown High School and a Halloween Dance party.
The soccer clinic was held on Saturday, October 17 at Newtown High School's Blue & Gold Stadium. The clinic was designed and implemented by Blake Heim-Sherwood and it served as her senior capstone project. Members of Newtown's girls soccer team taught FUN members how to trap, dribble, pass, and shoot a soccer ball.
Then, on Sunday, October 25, FUN members gathered at Newtown Congregational Church for the annual Halloween Dance party. More than 130 participants came to the event sporting their best costumes for the occasion. Attendees decorated pumpkins as a team, strutted down a red carpet, and danced a lot. There was a trunk-or-treat in the church parking lot later on in the day.
Linda Jones, founder of FUN, said, “It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and the energy and enthusiasm of everyone there made it truly special."
