Five NHS Students Charged With Drug Offenses

Police report having made five drug-related arrests of Newtown High School students in three separate cases at the Berkshire Road school since October 29.

During the school day on November 3, a 16-year-old girl was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia, police said.

After investigating, police charged her with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia. The girl was released from custody on a written promise to a appear November 14 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Also, in a separate case on November 3, another 16-year-old girl was found to be in possession of an unknown prescription medication and some drug paraphernalia, police said.

 Following an investigation, police charged her with illegal possession of narcotics and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following arrest processing, police released that girl on her written promise to appear November 14 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Also, police report that they arrested three male high school students on drug charges at the school on the morning of October 29.

School administrators contacted the school’s police resource officer with a complaint which police then investigated, resulting in the three arrests.

Of the three, two of the boys are 14 years old, and the third is age 15, police said.

Police charged one of the 14-year-old boys with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and also with intent to sell marijuana. Police charged each of the other two boys with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Police released the boys from custody for November 10 appearances in Danbury Juvenile Court. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

As is the case when underage persons are arrested, police provided few details on their criminal cases.
