Hawks 1, Thunder 0 â The Thunder may have thrown a no-hitter at the Hawks at Glander Field, but the Hawks figured out a way to win the game, 1-0.
Vikram Makayee raced home from third base on a third-inning wild pitch to score the gameâs only run. Makayee, who reached first on a walk, had advanced to third on a Brennan Merrick walk and another wild pitch.
 Thunder pitchers Kyle Wilcox, Michael Koch and Kaleb Rowe struck out 15 Hawks batters in six innings. In the fifth inning, Vikram hit a dribbler in front of home plate that one manager scored an error and another manager an infield hit. Only two other balls were put in play by Hawksâ batters during the game.
Hawks pitchers Jon Hull, Reid Schmidt and Dan Gustafson also were impressive, yielding just two hits and striking out 12 batters. Hull retired all six batters he faced.
The Thunderâs two hits were a double by Wilcox and a single by Rowe. Playing centerfield in the first inning, Gustafson made the catch of the day, sliding in for a shoestring catch to rob Sean Dardine of a base hit. Makayee also snagged an infield pop and doubled a runner off second to quell a fourth-inning Thunder threat.
Red Alert 4, Thunder 3 â Dean Demers ripped a clutch, two-out single in the final inning to break open a 3-3 tie and give the Red Alert a win at Glander Field.
Alex Romeo, who had walked, scored the winning run. Reliever Troy Larsen, who pitched two innings, picked up the win. Larsen worked his way out of a fifth-inning bases-loaded jam by striking out a Thunder batter.
The Thunder jumped out to a 3-1 first-inning lead. Ben Stoller drilled a two-RBI single to center, scoring Sean Dardine, who had singled, and Michael Koch, who had walked. Kaleb Rowe then slapped a ball to second base that was misplayed, scoring Stoller. Other Thunder hits in the game were singles by Jacob Moore and Kyle Wilcox.
Besides Demersâ game-winner, other Red Alert hits were singles by Ricky Kerins, Austin Raftery and Jamie MacDonald. MacDonald hit drove in Cassie Ekstrom.
Teammate Eric Terhaar made one the gameâs two standout plays, diving to catch a centerfield fly. Thunder first baseman Stoller grabbed a bad hop with the bases loaded and dove onto the base to deprive Ryan Palmer of a base hit in the third inning.
Thunder pitchers Wilcox, Dardine, Koch and Rowe struck out 13 batters. Red Alert pitchers Demers, Larsen, Austin Ekstrom, and Austin Raftery, who picked up the save, fanned 10.
Red Alert 6, Vikings 5 â Solid pitching performances from Austin Raftery and Dean Demers led the way for the Red. Timely hits from Ryan Palmer and a walk-off double from Jamie McDonald were the keys to the victory.
Thunder 21, Middlebury 4 â Sending 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, the Thunder jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back.
Sean Dardine led the first-inning attack by rapping a two-RBI double to left field. Michael Koch also singled in a run; Ben Stoller brought in another on a sacrifice fly to deep center field, and Harrison Buzzi and Hunter Low each walked to drive in runs. Kaleb Rowe also singled and scored, and many other Thunder players walked or reached on errors during the uprising.
The Thunder struck again with eight second-inning runs. Rowe knocked in two with a base hit; Kyle Wilcox drove in another with a sacrifice fly to deep center; Connor Bateson brought one home with a hit by pitch, and Dardine, Koch, Buzzi and Hunter each walked to bring in runs.
The Thunder scored two more in the third when Dardine walked and Koch tripled to deep right field. Wilcox hit an RBI groundout to score Koch.
Wilcox was the winning pitcher, striking out all three, first-inning batters he faced. Wilcox lowered his earned-run average to 1.29 and has struck out 20 batters in seven innings of pitching this season. Dardine relieved and struck out two batters in one inning of work, and Stoller pitched the final two innings for the save. Stoller struck out three batters looking at strikes.
The Thunderâs Jacob Moore made a nice catch in center field in the fourth inning. Prior to the catch, he also singled and smacked the longest ball of his career, which was dropped by the center fielder. Koch also made an outstanding play, ranging from shortstop to shallow left field to rob a Middlebury batter of a third-inning hit.
Brookfield 6, Thunder 4 â The Thunder battled back from 3-0 and 5-2 deficits but werenât able to come away with a win Saturday at Grayâs Bridge in Brookfield.
Ben Stoller helped the Thunder comeback with a long double over the right fielderâs head, scoring Kyle Wilcox. Michael Koch singled Stoller to third, and Stoller came home when the left fielder hesitated throwing the ball to the infield.
The Thunderâs Erik Laaksonen slapped two singles, including one in the first inning that scored Sean Dardine. He also scored a run and pitched a hitless second inning.
Jacob Moore knocked in the other Thunder run with a single.
Wilcox overwhelmed the opposition in relief, striking out six Brookfield batters in two innings of work. He combined with Kaleb Rowe, Laaksonen and Koch to strike out 13 batters in six innings.
U8/9
Red Tide 11, Huskies 6 â Jake (The Glove) Simonson was stellar on defense, making plays in the infield and outfield to lead the Red Tide to the win. Mike (Big Papi) Davenportâs bat remained hot at the plate, while Joey (The Bandit) Carrino swiped 5 bags in the winning cause.
Eagles 15, Brookfield 2 â Nicholas Cagganello and Chris Calo pitched well for the Eagles. Andri Henn and Eddy Lajoie powered the offense with sparkling defensive plays by Nick Carroza and Anthony Sodoski behind the plate.
Brookfield 10, Eagles 8 â Pat Berger and Joe Calbo pitched well while Paul Oleary and Jared Hebner played well on defense, but the Eagles still came up short.
Blue Devils 10, Navy 5 â Michael Parker, Nate Dowd and Alex Klang pitched well to lead the Blue Devils to the win. Nicholas Chaloux and Connor Ryan scored a combined four runs to spark the offense. For Navy, Jake Reed and Nathan Cooper had two hits each and Connor Miller pitched two strong innings.
Brookfield 9, Tuscans 5 â Bobby Archiere, Mark Dowling and Will Dalton led the pitching and anchored the offense for the Tuscans. Matt Wood and Sam Czel added key hits.
Brookfield 8, Tuscans 6 â Lane Kummer and Matt Wood pitched well, throwing three scoreless innings, but Newtown still fell short. Ryan Conway, John Carlson and Mark Dowling were on base several times and led the scoring.
Huskies 10, Lightning 5 â Dillon Palumbo, Liam Pallila and Jared Brady who all had RBI singles to pace the Huskies. Nick Cirone and Deegan Beauchemin pitched well.
Red Tide 12, Huskies 6 â Devon Pallila who smacked a double and Jimmy Widmann and Jason Ferrari who had RBI singles to lead the Huskies. Andrew Ross and Declan Sullivan played well on defense.
Gators 10, Blazers 5 â Victor Vasquez and David Matthews each pitched two solid innings in leading the Gators to victory. Jonathan Rospenda and Nick Eisele powered the offense. For the Blue Devils, Jim Parker pitched two strong innings and Bobby Lydon, Brendan Grant and Matthew Ingwersen all played well in the field.
Blazers 12, Navy 5 â Nick Nelson, Connor Roche and Jordan Salvesen all had hits to lead the Blazers in victory. Zach Aumueller and Jack Corbett held tough on the mound and were supported by the defensive efforts of Matt Hess, Austin Huffman and Jacob Harper.
Blazers 9, Black Panthers 2 â Glen Damotaâs first pitch, first inning single, followed by Zach Aumuellerâs triple and the offense of Connor Roche, Jordan Salvesen and Matthew Hess helped the Blazers retain their undefeated record. Great hustle by Autins Lesu and strong baserunning by Nick Nelson contributed to the win.
SOFTBALL
U14
Newtown 11, Brookfield 6 â Natalie Dunn, Shannon Barra and Meriah Tani were 2-for-3 with two RBIs each to lead Newtown past Brookfield. The defense turned two double plays â (1) Kaitlyn Kakadelis fielded a fly at short then threw to Dunn at first to catch the runner off guard at the base ending the third inning; (2) Dunn caught a fly at first and doubled up on the runner at first. Allie Jones made a good heads up play in the field.
Pink Panthers 12, Blue 4 â Marilyn LaCroce reached base four times with three hits and Caitlin Tefft added two hits to lead the Pink Panther offense. Kate Siroky threw two scoreless innings and Rachel Camejo also pitched well. For Blue, Brittany Soucar was 2-for-3 with an RBI double while Natalie Dunn was also 2-for-3 with a deep triple. Aria Brownell and Brittany Clark each pitched well.
Pink Panthers 11, Southbury 10 â With the game tied and bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th inning, Kate Siroky drew a walk to plate Emily Rowe for the game winning run. Rachel Camejo and Caitlin Tefft collected two hits apiece as Ashley Duncan reached base three times and Taylor Johnson and Marilyn LaCroce hit shots â a triple and double, respectively â over the heads of the outfielders.
Pink Panthers 16, Blue 15 â The Pink Panthers capped a double header sweep by again rallying in the bottom of the 6th inning. With the game tied, Emily Rowe hit a game winning single into right field to plate Sarah Pettinelli, who led off the inning by roping a double to left field. Taylor Johnson added three hits and Marilyn LaCroce contributed two hits to lead the offense. Blue was led by Megan Gibbons, who had two hits and then displayed great defense behind the plate by throwing out a base stealer. Shannon Barra was on base three times and Britney Soucar chipped in three RBIs.
