Motor Vehicle Case
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Bryan Tilford, 37, of Danbury turned himself over to Newtown Police on February 2 and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court, driving under suspension, violating a stop sign, driving without automotive insurance, and towing an unregistered trailer, police said.
Police said that Tilford had failed to appear in court on December 2 in connection with the motor vehicle charges, which stem from an October 17 incident on Walnut Tree Hill Road.
After posting a $500 bond, police released Tilford for a February 10 court appearance.
Sand Hill Plaza
Police report they charged William Rohland, 18, of Derby on an arrest warrant on February 2, listing a charge of interfering with police in connection with a past auto accident in the Sand Hill Plaza parking lot on South Main Street.
Police said Rohland was involved in accident last November 30 at the plaza. During the course of the police investigation into the accident, Rohland did not provide proper information to the other motorist, provided false information to police, and mislead police, according to police.
Consequently, police sought an arrest warrant for Rohland, who is slated to appear in court on February 18 to answer the charge.
Hawleyville Collision
Motorist Todd Richert, 36, of Moodus, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on Hawleyville Road at about 10 am February 2, stopped to make a left turn onto Hawleyville Road, police report.
A northbound 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Richard Rogers, 38, of Fort Collins, Colo., then struck the Ford from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Rogers an infraction ticket for following too closely.
Chain Reaction
A four-vehicle, chain reaction accident involving two trucks and two sedans occurred on Church Hill Road near St Rose Church at about 10 am February 2, according to police. There were no injuries.
A westbound 1995 International sanding truck, owned by the state Department of Transportation and driven by Francis Phelan, 35, of Naugatuck, was stopped and waiting to turn left into the St Rose Church parking lot, police said.
Westbound motorist Marie-Louise Engstrom, 21, of 16 Quarry Ridge Road, who was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry, stopped behind the sanding truck, police said.
Westbound motorist Lawrence Scully, 63, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1994 Chrysler LHS, stopped behind the Toyota, police said.
At that time, westbound motorist Richard Kerrigan, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 1995 Freightliner oil delivery truck, drove into the rear end of the Chrysler, pushing the Chrysler into the rear end of the Toyota. That impact pushed the Toyota into the rear end of the sanding truck, police said.
Police issued Kerrigan an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
