Occupation: I’m a museum consultant. I do exhibits and collection care for museums across the country and I’m expanding to do care for private collectors and businesses. I do any form of collectibles, not just art. I’m also a freelance writer for motorcycle magazines.

Family: I am married to Suzanne. I have two stepdaughters, Lauren, who is just 13, and Madeleine, who is almost 16.

Pets: We have two cats, Betsy and Simba. Betsy is 8 and Simba is 1 year old. Betsy was a stray and we got Simba when one of our neighbor’s cats had kittens.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I have lived here since 1999.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to ride my motorcycle, especially through the Litchfield Hills or Vermont and Maine. I have a Moto Guzzi California. I do like to go to museums, and I read a lot of motorcycle magazines to keep current.

Do you have a favorite author? Neal Stephenson. He writes speculative fiction. It’s like science fiction, but not so far into the future. I just finished Quicksilver, and am about to go on with the rest of the trilogy, called The Baroque Cycle.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? The Caribbean Islands, or anywhere in the Southwest that I can get to by motorcycle. Suzanne and I rode out to the Grand Canyon area in 2005, and we got engaged at the four corners where Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico meet.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I love how much culture there is for a small town. The Blue Z is just the latest coffee shop to offer art and live music. We’ve got a lot of venues for live music; we have theater; and SCAN art shows, to name a few things. And I love being close to the New England mountain country to go riding. Newtown is the perfect place to launch a day trip.

Do you have a hero? Robert Edison Fulton. He was an inventor who lived here. He followed his dreams and came up with brilliant inventions and was an artist and philosopher. I’d read about him and read his book about going around the world on his motorcycle in 1932, so I looked him up one day in the phone book and called him. He said, “Come on over.” I got to see the motorcycle. We met a few times — he was in his 90s then — and he told me the adventures in his life.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I hope to live my life as a free man, not as a sheep who always follows the flock, fearing both wolf and shepherd.

What is the most important lesson you have ever learned? The lesson I’m trying to learn right now it to enjoy what is good. Don’t be satisfied with anything less than perfection.
