Get The Picture:

Digital Photography Workshop

Planned For Young Adults

Young adults who want some hands-on experience and pointers in digital photography are invited to sign up for “Click! Get The Picture!,” a special workshop just for them.

The Newtown Flagpole Photographers Camera Club in conjunction with C.H. Booth Library Young Adult Department is offering a free workshop on how to take better pictures with your digital camera. The workshop is a repeat of a similar program that was offered last year with very positive results.

This year’s workshop will be on Saturday, August 2, running from 9:30 to 11 am.

The focus is on hands-on picture-taking. Any young adult entering sixth grade and up is welcome, and may invite a parent or other adult to come along.

Participants will need to bring their own digital camera and its manual. The course will include pointers for taking good photos; a walk around the library outdoors and inside, taking photos that demonstrate each point; and on-the-spot assistance by several members of the Flagpole Photographers Club of Newtown, who have generously volunteered their time.

Anne Eigen and Jim Talarino, who also run the multiweek photography course of Newtown Parks & Recreation, will lead the Saturday morning session. Since retiring as a State of Connecticut public schools teacher, Mrs Eigen has pursued her passion for fine arts photography, including judging at camera club competitions across the state.

Mr Talarino worked as a professional photographer and was a member of the Connecticut Association of Professional Photographers for many years.  He also judges in camera club competitions throughout the State.

The complete list of participating photographers is as follows:

*Art Anderson, who was a professional photographer for many years and enjoys fine art black and white photography. His work regularly appears in area juried art shows.

*Don Brooks, who learned photography by taking pictures for his father’s weekly newspaper in Illinois and then at college for the school undergraduate publications. After shooting slides for many years, he has joined the digital age.

*Sara Frampton, a second grade teacher, enjoys incorporating her photography and computer skills into her teaching and also does extensive photography for the Newtown Democratic Town Committee.

*Jan Sansevera especially enjoys photojournalistic photography. As a real estate agent in Newtown, she enjoys using her photographic and computer skills in designing brochures and other real estate marketing materials.

*Ed Siciliano, treasurer of Flagpole Photographers Club, enjoys all types of photography, especially photographing flowers.

The workshop will begin and return to the library’s first floor meeting room. The group is limited to 15 young people.  Sign up at the main floor circulation desk or call 426-4533 to register. There is no charge for the workshop.
