Newtown's Curious Sign Language
Don't let the sign fool you. Main Street has not been moved.
But the sign at the intersection of Main and Sugar streets (above right) has
somehow been turned around, making it look as if the flagpole is now on Sugar
Street.
There's also a sign at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill
Road that has been turned upside down for months. The sign used to tell
drivers to stay in the left lane when going straight. Now, it tells them to
get in the right lane and turn around and head in the opposite direction.
Other signs in Newtown have simply been knocked down, like the one at the
intersection of Borough Lane and South Main Street. That sign, which has since
been put back up, fell victim to the sewer work near Amaral Motors earlier
this summer.
A few residents on The Boulevard took it upon themselves to erect a sign
urging speeding drivers to slow down. A sign was also recently put up on 100
Acres Road reminding motorists that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour, not
55 as some might have thought.
There are several signs in Newtown warning people to "Beware of the Dog." But
The Newtown Bee is aware of only one sign, the one on Walnut Tree Hill Road,
that alerts them to "Beware of the Rooster."
