U8

Mustangs 2, Wildcats 1: Angela Vodola and Karsen Pirone scored for the Mustangs; for the Wildcats, it was Jackie Matthews. The Mustangs defense was led by Kaitlyn King at sweeper shutting down the wildcats. Mopsey Seaver and Natalie Barden played great all around. For the Wildcats, Rylee Harrell and Hannah Groonel played great all around and defensively they were led by Colleen Phaneuf and Laura Augenbraun.

The Fighting Eagles 5, Lions 2: Katie Sailer showed her Danbury style off with a nice hat trick, while Nathalie Schickendantz and Simone Paradis also found the back of the net. Maddie Stites was ferocious in goal and Mary Sortino led a stout defense. For the Lions, Emma Curtis scored two goals and Samantha Bicho and Sirena Galati both had great defensive games.

U10

Extreme Mustangs 3, Wolverines 1: Nahdi Bropleh provided a key assist to goal-scorer Grace Larsen, while Megan Goyda added two more for the Mustangs. Juliet Grover, assisted by Zoe Freedman, scored the Wolverines’ only goal. Jenna Ehnot led the Wolverines’ defense playing strong in goal during the second half. Keira Veillette also delivered an amazing defensive effort for the Wolverines. For the Mustangs, Joy Metzger played tenacious defense, and Alex Futterman played a scoreless first half in goal.

American Eagles 4, Wolverines 2: Juliet Grover and Sarah MacMullan scored first-half goals for the Wolverines. Zoe Freedman cut through the rain and wind on offense and Jenna Ehnot did an amazing job in her first time as goalkeeper. For the American Eagles, Natalie Young played a tenacious defensive game and Kaysie Fisher did a great job in the goalie position. Julia Doyle and Hana Rosenthal played determined games with one goal each, and Olivia Hage scored two goals in an impressive showing on offense.

Underdogs 6, Team Two 2: The first half was a struggle for the Underdogs as Mallory Lobuglio scored Team Two’s two goals, with an assist by Sydney Johnson. Underdogs tied the game with a goal scored by Caroline Condon (three goals) and a second goal by newcomer Sammy Olah. As the Underdogs stayed true to their name by coming back in the second half, they scored four more goals. Team Two’s Julia Haskins defended the goal, as she showed her versatility on the field, while Natalie Shaker and Lauren Carrino contributed to Underdogs’ lead.

Newtown Breeze 6, Fairfield Red 0: Rylee Mulligan, Sarah Houle, Natalie Kelchner, Maggie Beardsley, and Marcella Daily all netted goals. Jacklin Gouveia and Greta Staubly powered the defense, while Cassiday Kortze, Natalie Kelchner, and Rylee Mulligan combined in goal for the shutout.

U11

Newtown Thistle 2, Fairfield Blue 2: Emily Neave and Ashling Sugarman scored Newtown’s goals. Mia Katsuleres repeatedly outmaneuvered Fairfield at midfield. Brianna MacDonald and Stefanie Carr were dominant in the goal, assisted by outstanding defenders Emily Montoya and Brianna Lutz.

U13

Greenwich 2, Lightning 1: After an early goal by Greenwich, the U13 girls tied it up late in the first period when Sarah Lynch powered the ball into the nets on a breakaway run. The two teams battled scoreless through most of the second half and Newtown seemed ready to take the lead during a number of offensive attacks, but their opponents managed to score instead moments before the final buzzer. Andrea Rodriquez and Jesse Sailer were tough in the nets for the Lighting. Kate Fallon had a good overall game in the back field, while Emily Riley helped keep up the offensive pressure.

U14

Chatterboxes 5, Street Lightning 4: Meghan Grimes scored 3 times and Emily Grimes scored 2 goals to lead the Chatterboxes. Amanda Donovan and Danielle Mola played well at midfield and Kayla DiSibio and Margot Elkins held the defensive line. For the Street Lightning, goals were scored by Marina Renzi, Maddie Aug, Aileen Sheluck, and Amanda Martinez. Emma DeFlumeri and Emma Burns were  strong all around.

Boys

U10

Newtown 2, Easton Black 0: James Barden and Tyler Trede were both in the top of their game in goal. JT Lewis scored a goal in rare form, on a corner kick. Josh Harper scored the second goal with help from Brendan O’Hara.

Norwalk CSC 3, Newtown 0: John Finnegan made some excellent saves in goal. Christian Adam and Henry Petrillo kept the pressure on the other team. Danny Arneth did a great job clearing the ball.

Newtown Predators 7, Team Five 5: On offense, Kevin Arther, five goals, and Michael Arther, two goals, combined to score all of seven goals and also assisted on three goals. Michael Liberante and Christopher Russo each had an assist as well. Christopher Russo was strong in goal with five great saves and only allowing two goals. Thomas Majilinger and Brian Manna were outstanding on defense locking down the offensive players.

Newtown Predators 5, Team Three 4: It was a close game throughout, but the Predators came back from being two points down. All five goals were scored by Kevin Arther (four) and Michael Arther (one), who both played great on offense. Kevin also had five additional shots on goal. Brian Manna had three great saves in goal. Manna and Michael Liberante each had an assist.

Wilton 7, Net Rippers 1: The Net Rippers faced a tough Wilton team in the second game of the spring season. Despite gallant efforts from goalies Adam Bergeron and Mark Hall, who was also relentless on defense, the Net Rippers lost. Josh Harper scored the lone goal, with an assist from Matt Gerbo. Hunter Procaccini and Ryan Brello hung tough on defense, and Brendan O’Hara showed lightning speed.

U11

Newtown 5, Ridgefield 0: It was a shooting frenzy in Newtown’s 5-0 win over Ridgefield. With goals from Luke Caplan, Justin Gillespie and a hat trick from Matt Guinee, Newtown outshot their opponents the whole game. Solid defense and great passing contributed to the effort. Stellar goaltending duties were shared by Tiernan Keane and Andrey Masser, who secured the shutout victory.

U14

CA Falcons 5, Hot Pockets 4: Chris Rovelli scored three times for the Falcons and Mark Urso scored twice. Carter Nordman scored twice for the Hot Pockets, with Tommy Shaker and Josh Tuffy each scoring once as well. Travis Hanna and Chris Anesi did a great job as goalie for the Hot Pockets.

Team Four 8, Team Six 5: For Team Four, Timothy VanderHave had four goals, Dillion Palumbo had two, and Nathan Williams and Keven Lopes each got one. Matt Barra and Patrick Olah were good in goal.  For Team Six, Jake Moore scored three goals and George Ferris got two. Tommy Elliot and Conner Murphy were in goal.
