Alfred F. Pina

Alfred F. Pina, 66, husband of Patricia (Meath) Pina of Hill Top Manor, Danbury, died at Danbury Hospital on May 13, after a brief illness.

He is survived by a daughter, Christine Vigneau, and her husband, Sean, of Newtown.

Mr Pina was born in Danbury, February 6, 1935, son of Celeste (Maximo) Pina of Danbury and the late Alfred P. Pina, Sr. He grew up in Danbury and was a graduate of Danbury High School, class of 1962. He served with the US Navy and the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

 He began his career with the US Postal Service and retired in 1992, after 37 years as manager of the Main Street Post office in Danbury. Following his retirement from the US Postal Service, he worked as a buyer for the Danbury Centerless Grinding Company for seven years.

He was a member of St Joseph Church in Danbury and in his earlier years, when raising his family, he was active at St Joseph School and was the treasurer of the Danbury Parochial school basketball league. He had also served as a president of the postal union and was a member of the Korean War Veterans’ Association. He enjoyed outside work and gave unselfishly to family, friends, and acquaintances.

In addition to his wife of 42 years and his mother and daughter, Mr Pina is survived by two sons, Gregory Pina and his wife, Trish, of New Fairfield, and Randy Pina and his wife, Cindy, of Bethel; another daughter, Kathy Pina and her fiancé, Joe Tomonto, of Stamford; a brother, Raymond Pina of Danbury; two sisters, Virginia Tawyer of East Hartford and Ezilda Marcroft of Vernon; six grandchildren, Brooke Pina, Callie Pina, Arianna Pina, Camryn Pina, Michael Pina and Eric Vigneau; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr Pina was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia, in 1964 and a brother, Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Joseph Church, Danbury. on May 16. Burial took place in St Peter Cemetery.

The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, was in charge of arrangements.
