Longtime Sandy Hook Resident
Eleanor H. McAuliffe, 72, of Sandy Hook, died July 22. A Sandy Hook resident for more than 60 years, she was born in the Bronx, N.Y., January 26, 1935.
She was the wife of Thomas J. McAuliffe, and daughter of Karl and Eleonore Bohle Hartmann, originally of Bochum in Westfalen, Germany.
Mrs McAuliffe was a graduate of E.B.B. Junior High and Walton High School in the Bronx, and State College of Buffalo, in 1957, with a BS in education, with teaching certificates in two fields, Kâ8 and special education in speech, hearing, and language therapy. She taught in elementary and special education in Arcade, Calif.; Cazenovia, N.Y.; and Danbury, Newtown, Torrington, and Ansonia schools. In her private time she excelled in photography, crafts, poetry, and piano.
Besides her loving husband, Mrs McAuliffe is survived by a son, Clayton Eugene Allen of New York City; her daughter-in-law Carmen Guzman; granddaughters Anaka and Sophia; daughter Glynis Lenore Allen Martin of New Preston; son-in-law Greg Martin; and grandsons Nathan, Benjamin, and Joe Zaccara; daughter Kathi Keli McAuliffe Crum of Pine, Colo.; son-in-law Mike Crum; and grandsons William Penn and William Elison. Her love and affection, given and received, should also be noted for all her Vietnamese âchildren,â Tam, Minh, Thao, Phuong, Chi and Hai Nguyen, their spouses, and their children of New York, California, and Florida; and Nguyet, Dung, and Hung Le, their spouses and their children of New York and Connecticut.
A memorial celebration will be held August 11, from noon to 4 pm, for all friends and family at The Pleasance garden park in Newtown, at the intersection of Main Street/Route 25 and Route 302. Friends are welcome. Please e-mail bippop@mac.com or call 860-946-6630 if attending.
