The Lightning Strikes 3, Pink Dragons 0: The Lightning Strikes and Pinks Dragons had the honor of kicking off the spring session with the first game. Some rust was evident in the first half with neither side scoring. The great defense of Sanjana Vakacheria and Mia Oltran of the Pink Dragons and Riley Burns and Carly Decker of The Lightning Strikes kept the goal scorers in check. However, in the second half The Lightning Strikes broke through on two goals by Becca Filiato, the first on an assist by Olivia Cornett, and the second on an outstanding cross by Michaela Cosgriff. Victoria Stevenson’s accurate passing allowed Ally McCarthy and Paige Farley of the Pink Dragons to press The Lightning Strikes late, however, Taegan Smith scored late on an unassisted goal to put The Lightning Strikes up by three. Scoring chances were many by both teams but the superior goaltending of Mia Hochstetler of the Pink Dragons and Caroline Drew of the Lightning Strikes kept the score close. 

Warriors 2, Lightning 0: The Warriors displayed a great team effort in their spring opener, getting significant contributions from all team members. Elizabeth Cassetta fired in her first career goal to open the scoring, and Charlotte Branchflower launched a rocket shot for the other goal and initiated many attacks. Maggie LaBanca, Alexis Woods, and Emily Dunford displayed good skills while aiding the offensive pressure. Emma Magazu, Maggie Breault, Katie Jones, and Sophia Bajcer fortified a rock solid defense which turned back numerous charges. Samantha Kuruc was stellar in goal. For the Lightning, the offense was anchored by great overall play from Katie Viselli, and Nicole Fisher both of whom moved the ball well up and down the pitch. The Lightning defensive unit was led by Julie Raiani, Kristen Reisert, and Mia Guarna, who deflected multiple attacks on net by a very tough opponent. The highpoint of the Lighting defense was the tight goalkeeping of Madison DelPozo and Megan Delp. Cat-like defense reflexes in the net prevented the Warriors from adding more to the final tally.

Newtown Funky Monkeys 6, New Canaan Lightning 0: The Funky Monkeys opened the spring season with a bang as Simone Paradis netted the first of the Monkeys goals in the opening minutes of the game. The Lightning charged back, but stellar play on defense throughout by Nina Henriques, kept the Lightning bottled up. Olivia Oltran swung through the defense to snag a nice pass from Paradis and was able to find the corner of the net. Olivia Cavallero held the Lighting in check. Sage Karp blew the game open for the Monkeys with repeated scores, including a 20 yard blast that hit the top corner of the net.

Wolverines 3, Team Ten 1: Two early goals were fired in the net by Trevor Hislop, and Zach Guilherme added a third with a powerful kick. Defensively, Gavin Horn led the charge and Alex Da Silva was impenetrable as the goalkeeper. Team Ten played hard the entire match and both teams displayed good sportsmanship.

Cheeseballs 8, Sponge Bobs 1: The Sponge Bobs played an excellent game with great defense by Andrew Bazuro in goal and on the field. Tanner Trede led the Sponge Bob offense energetically throughout the game, and had a goal in the third quarter. He was assisted throughout the game by an aggressive Tyler Grasso who was constantly drove toward the goal. The Cheeseballs played a solid team game that featured some great passing, which created many scoring chances. The scoring was led by Markus Paltauf with 4 goals and 2 assists, Colin Marshall with 2 goals and 2 assists, and George Sandercox with 2 goals and 1 assist.  Also adding assists were Calum Edmund, JP O’Leary, and Owen Reinhart.
