Key Rock Theft

Several pieces of landscaping equipment were stolen from a shed at a residence on Key Rock Road, police reported on March 1. The crime that occurred is third degree larceny, representing the theft of items worth between $1,000 and $5,000. It is a felony.

Key Rock Road links Sugar Street to Hattertown Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Henry Murphy, 47, of 192 Huntingtown Road turned himself in at the police station on March 4 and was charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license, police report.

The charges stem from a one-car accident last November 9 on Brushy Hill Road, police said.

At about 9 pm on November 9, Murphy was driving a 2001 BMW 330-CI coupe southward on Brushy Hill Road, when the auto went off the road and struck a tree and a utility pole near 172 Brushy Hill Road. Botsford firefighters extricated Murphy from the wreckage, after which he was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

After processing the arrest, police released Murphy on $100 bail for a March 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Bicycle Found

On March 2, police report that a bicycle was found in a wooded area near the isolated intersection of Walnut Tree Hill Road and Alberts Hill Road in Sandy Hook. The owner may claim the bicycle by contacting police.

Three-Vehicle Crash

Motorist Kevin Anzellotti, 42, of 34 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck southward on South Main Street at about noon February 1, stopped for traffic, police report.

Motorist Edward Wypychoski, Jr, 51, of Redding, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Outback southward behind the Dodge, also stopped for traffic, police said.

Southbound motorist Barbara Devine, 55, of Stamford, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan, attempted to stop, but could not, according to police. The Toyota struck the rear end of Subaru, pushing the Subaru into the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Devine a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Collision

Motorist Michael Meehan, 73, of 14 Chipmunk Trail, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy westward on Riverside Road near Dickinson Drive on March 2, stopped for a vehicle in front of him, which had stopped, police said.

Motorist Elizabeth Conklin, 35, of Oxford, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, then drove into the rear end of the Subaru, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Conklin a written warning for following too closely.

Counterfeit License

While on patrol on March 4, police spotted motorist Deuzeni Gomes, 21, of Danbury stopped along the southbound shoulder of Washington Avenue with his hazard lights flashing. Police said they found Gomes to be in possession of a counterfeit international driver’s license.

Police charged Gomes with second degree forgery, which is a felony. Gomes is scheduled to appear in court March 16 to answer the charge.

Alcohol At High School

After a Newtown High School official found that a girl under age 16 there was in possession of alcohol, the matter was referred to police, who charged the youth with possession of alcohol by a minor, police said.

The girl, whose identity was withheld by police due to her age, was released into the custody of her parents. The youth is slated to appear March 15 in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police report that motorist Andrew Lambo, 17, of 8 Country Squire Road was driving southward on Queen Street on the night of March 5, when they stopped him.

Police said the marker plate on the vehicle that Lambo was driving was covered with mud and was hanging by one screw. Police charged Lambo with improperly displaying a marker plate and with driving under suspension.

Police released Lambo on $100 bail for a March 18 court appearance.

Pontiac Vs Jeep

Motorist Heather Cramer, 30, of 8 Pastor’s Walk, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport-utility vehicle southward on South Main Street at about 5 pm March 7, was slowing to make a right turn onto Blue Spruce Drive, when the Jeep was struck from behind by a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by John Williams, 55, of Stamford, police said.

Cramer reported neck pain, police said. Police verbally warned Williams for following too closely.

Toyota and Deer

Motorist Paul Burnett, 53, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry northward on South Main Street at about 7:45 pm March 5, when a deer ran into the side of the auto, police report.

The deer was killed. The auto was damaged.

Burnett was not injured. There was no enforcement.

 

South Main Crash

At about 5 pm on March 5, motorist Andrea Ragot, 18, of 39 The Boulevard, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle, made a left turn out from the driveway of the Citgo Friendly Service Station at 151 South Main Street, traveling into the path of an oncoming 2001 Ford sedan driven by Luann Sullivan 45, of 21 Little Brook Lane, police said.

The vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Police issued Ragot an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Pontiac Vs Honda

Motorist Susanna Schiller, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan northward on South Main Street at about 2:40 pm March 6, stopped for a red traffic signal at that road’s intersection with Wasserman Way, police said.

Northbound motorist Justin Elander, 26, of 6 Old Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville, applied his brakes, but struck the rear end of the Honda, police report. There were no injuries.

Police gave Elander a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Three-Vehicle Accident

Motorist Devonna Middeleer, 16, of 9 Dodgingtown Road, who was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta eastward on Church Hill Road at about 7:15 am March 4, stopped to make a left turn into the Newtown Shell Service gas station at 67 Church Hill Road, police said.  Eastbound motorist James Freeman, 40, of 4 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, then stopped behind the Volkswagen, police said.

Eastbound motorist David Wesley, 18, of 8 Morris Road, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Corolla, struck the Chevrolet from behind, pushing the Chevrolet into the rear end of the Volkswagen, according to police. There were no injuries.

Police gave Wesley a written warning for following too closely.

Mail Thefts

Police said they are investigating reports of mail theft in the areas of Taunton Hill Road, Sawmill Road, Plumtrees Road, and Butterfield Road.

Much mail which was stolen was found lying on the road near one of the victim’s houses, police said.   

Police urge that residents not leave any mail in their mailboxes overnight. Anyone with information on the mail thefts is asked to contact police.

Shoplifting Incident

Police report they were called by Big Y supermarket security personnel on the afternoon of March 6 regarding an alleged shoplifting incident at the store at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street.

Police said that they charged Ella Chen, 43, of 17 Old Castle Drive with sixth degree larceny for allegedly stealing food items from the store. Police said they additionally charged Chen with risk of injury to a minor because Chen was accompanied by her five-year-old daughter.

Police released Chen on a promise to appear in court March 12.

Lincoln Vs Tree

At about 10 am on March 6, a tree, which had been standing along the right side of westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, fell onto the road, resulting in a collision with a 1990 Lincoln Mark 7 coupe being driven there by motorist Domingos D. Henriques, 53, of Danbury, state police said. The Lincoln then spun out onto the right road shoulder and struck another tree alongside the road, state police said.

Henriques was not injured.

State police took no enforcement.

Rear-Ender

At about 8:30 am on March 8, motorist Brandon Paine, 33, of Madison, who was driving a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon westward on Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet east of Exit 11, drove into the rear end of a gold-colored Saturn sedan, after the Saturn had stopped quickly due to traffic conditions, state police said. State police did not identify the Saturn’s driver.

Paine was not injured.

State police said Paine was following too closely.

Off-Ramp Crash

Motorist Mark Hennessey, 39, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 at about 3:44 pm March 6, when the Chevrolet was struck from behind by motorist Elizabeth Fabrizio, 61, of 27 Russett Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus, state police report.

There were no injuries.

State police said Fabrizio was following too closely.

High School Marijuana

Police said they arrested a boy under age 16, charging him with possession of marijuana after he was found to have a small bag of marijuana in the Newtown High School cafeteria midday on March 9. Police did not disclose the youth’s identity due to his age. The boy was released into the custody of his parents for a March 22 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Shoplifting

Police report that Big Y supermarket security staffers contacted them after they spotted a person allegedly shoplifting at the store at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street midday on March 9.

Police said they investigated and charged Lizbeth Moroney, 39, of 4 Cherry Street with sixth degree larceny. Police said they additionally charged Moroney with risk of injury to a minor because she was accompanied by her daughter who is under age 16. Police released Moroney on $250 bail for a March 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

At about 7:45 pm on March 7, police received a call from a Big Y supermarket employee stating that a female customer in the store, who had appeared to be intoxicated, drove away from the premises.

Police said they responded and located the woman motorist at 22 Church Hill Road and investigated, charging Julie France-Pierpaoli, 37, of Southbury with driving under the influence and with driving under suspension.

After processing the case, police released France-Pierpaoli on $100 bail for a March 23 court appearance.

Traffic Signal

Police report a two-vehicle accident involving two sport-utility vehicles at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Exit 10 off-ramp of Interstate 84 at about 1 pm, March 9.

After a traffic signal turned green, motorist Amy Rooney, 26, of 6 West Farm Ridge Road, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, proceeded from an off-ramp onto Church Hill Road, police said. Motorist Nicole Favreau, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on Church Hill Road, then braked for a red traffic signal, but could not stop in time and collided with the Nissan, police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Rooney to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said. Police issued Favreau an infraction ticket for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Castle Hill Crash

Motorist Catherine Gormley, 54, of 11 Wendover Road, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat westward on Castle Hill Road at about 9:10 am, March 9, lost control of the auto while negotiating a left curve and went off the right side of the road, striking a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gormley a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Financial Crimes

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Joan Y. Gale, 43, of New Milford went to the police station on March 8 and turned herself over to police be charged with multiple financial crimes.

Police said Gayle allegedly illegally used a victim’s credit card numerous times between September 9 and October 10, charging $5,230 on the credit card.

Also, Gayle allegedly took two bank checks from the victim in the total amount of $1,376 and cashed them, police said.

Police charged Gayle with one count of second degree larceny, six counts of second degree forgery, and 16 counts of illegal use of a credit card. The incidents occurred in Newtown, Brookfield, Danbury, and New Milford, police said.

After processing her arrest, police released Gayle on $500 bail for a March 23 court appearance.

Jeremiah Crash

Motorist Robert Ford, 38, of 49 Spring Trail was driving a 2001 Suzuki station wagon westward on Jeremiah Road about 5:44 pm March 4, when while traveling uphill he encountered a slippery road surface and went off the eastbound side of the street, police said.

The Suzuki entered a front yard at 62 Jeremiah Road and struck a tree, police said. Ford was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

MV Charges

Police report that on March 8 they charged motorist Pio Romero, 37, of Danbury with making a restricted turn and with misuse of marker plates. Police released Romero on a promise to appear March 24 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Road

At about 2 pm March 10, police spotted motorist Michael Dugan, 71, of Bethel driving on Hawleyville Road with a paper registration marker in the rear window of his vehicle.

Police said they investigated and charged Dugan with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Dugan on $100 bail for a March 25 court appearance.
