Town Athletes Show Their Stuff … Finish Triathlon

Six Newtown/ Sandy Hook athletes completed the Ford Ironman Lake Placid in upstate New York on July 24. Joe Whelan, of Newtown, completed the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run in a time of 10:47:49 to finish 240th among 2,611 finishers. Daniel Tichon, also of Newtown, finished in 11:09:06, good for 371st, and Chris McDonnell, of Sandy Hook, came across the finish line in a time of 11:37.35, 597th overall. Other Newtown residents to complete the course were Bruce Goulart, Leah Begg, and Bill Begg.
