To the Editor:
I would like to compliment Chris Lyddy for his positive campaign. It is extremely refreshing to know that in politics there still are statesmen who can rise above the personal attacks and address the issues. Iâm disappointed with Mr Fergusonâs statement that Chris Lyddy has not worked for Newtown. It appears a disconnected accusation. Chris Lyddy has been there for Newtown constantly â the Hawleyville Railroad Transfer, preservation of our aquifer and the Pootatuck and United Water, education, the state budget, promotion of small business â which is highly prevalent in Newtown, accountability in state accounting practices, and limiting government spending.
If I may, I would also like to point out some distinctions between some of the other races. For attorney general, the Republican, Martha Dean, is a lawyer who defends corporate polluters. She would refrain from environmental intervention through the attorney generalâs office. She would not have assisted Newtown in the Hawleyville Railroad Transfer pollution, nor become involved in the United Water-Newtown aquifer and Pootatuck battle. Dick Blumenthal and Chris Lyddy were invaluable forces fighting for Newtown on the matters. Further, Martha Dean proudly believes in the extreme of the extreme â John Calhoun/Jefferson Davis nullification. Yes, nullification, the philosophy by which each state may secede from the Union. She openly opines that individual states have ultimate authority and may even secede from the Union if they choose. George Jepson for attorney general will protect Newtownâs environment, the stateâs interests, and apply the law and Constitution. George Jepsonâs legal philosophy is mainstream. He does not believe the Constitution provides for confederate nullification. Likewise, Chris Murphy has been a strong advocate for Newtown weighing in on the important issues for us. Chris Lyddy, Chris Murphy, George Jepson, Richard Blumenthal, and Dan Malloy; all demonstrated leaders.
Returning to Chris Lyddy, Newtownâs state representative, he remains energetic and fully focused, ready to fight for Newtown. Chris Lyddy is Newtownâs first choice candidate.
Also, please remember, the Independent party on the ballot (Independent Party of Connecticut) is not the IPN (Independent Party of Newtown.) The philosophy of the Independent Party of Connecticut endorses Martha Dean. The education philosophy of IPN supports Chris Lyddy.
Chris Lyddy is a strong leader, is way ahead of his opponent on the issues, and working extremely hard for Newtown and Connecticut. Chris Lyddy is good for Connecticut, and great for Newtown! Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jim Gaston
