Minutes later, Julia Sughrue used her left foot to lift a beautiful goal over the Fairfield keeper’s head. Fairfield came back, and it looked like the game might end in a draw until Alessandra Manfredi broke away from the Fairfield defenders with minutes left in the game to score the winning goal. Goalkeepers Brianna MacDonald and Stephanie Carr were instrumental in this win, blocking several well-placed shots. Kendra Dunnigan was also a standout for Newtown at midfield, skillfully maneuvering the ball down the sidelines to get Newtown into scoring position.
