OBITS (Went; Walsh; Schifflin; Vellotti; Dalles)
Anthony J. Went
A memorial Mass for Anthony J. Went will be celebrated on Saturday, October
18, at 11 am at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Mr Went, a former Newtown resident and 1990 graduate of Newtown High School,
died on July 16 in Fairfax, Va.
His family will greet friends in the parish hall following the Mass.

Hilda V. Walsh
Hilda V. Walsh, 87, died Friday, October 3, at her home at 48 Queen Street.
She was the wife of the late William H. Walsh, Jr.
Before her retirement, she was public relations director at the former
Fairfield Hills Hospital and an editorial assistant at The Newtown Bee.
Long active in civic affairs, she served several terms as the tax collector of
the Borough of Newtown. She was a founding member of the Newtown Parks and
Recreation Commission and a founder and first president of the Spay and Neuter
Association of Newtown.
She was a trustee of the Newtown Congregational Church and a member of the
church's Circle Three, a member of the Newtown Garden Club, and the Newtown
Historical Society.
Mrs Walsh was born in New York, N.Y., on May 16, 1910, a daughter of Henry and
Ida Schmitt Voelksen.
She was a Newtown resident for the past 47 years.
Mrs Walsh volunteered as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross during World
War II. She also worked as an executive secretary at Cities Service Company on
Wall Street in New York.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Patricia Walsh of
Shelton; a daughter, Linda Nacinovich of South Kent; three granddaughters,
Lisa Fluman and Nina Nacinovich of Newtown and Amy Nacinovich of Albany, N.Y.;
a cousin, William Pilling of South Staten Island, New York; and a
great-granddaughter, Julia Fluman.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 7, at the Newtown Congregational
Church. Burial followed in Newtown Village Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Mrs Walsh may be made to the Newtown Congregational
Church Book of Remembrance, 41-A Main Street, Newtown 06470.
Funeral arrangements were by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South,
Southbury.

Lily N. Schifflin
A memorial service will be held for Lily Nelson Schifflin on Saturday, October
11, at the Newtown Congregational Church. All are welcome to attend.
Mrs Schifflin was the wife of Philip George Schifflin and the mother of Donna
Schifflin Bryan.

Edgar V. Vellotti
Edgar "Butch" V. Vellotti, 52, brother of Fritz L. Barnes of Newtown, died
October 5 at his home in Danbury. He was an employee of Tobey Landscaping and
Excavating in Wilton.
Mr Vellotti was a former resident of Vista, N.Y., and more recently lived in
the Ridgefield-Georgetown area.
He was born in Norwalk on September 24, 1945, a son of Albert L. and Jennie
Hawley Barnes.
Mr Vellotti was an honorary life member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1373 in
Danbury.
Besides his brother he is survived by a son, Edgar "Beau" V. Vellotti, Jr, of
Danbury; two daughters, Peggy Vellotti and Stephanie Vellotti, both of
Danbury; his fiancee, Judith Harco of Danbury; four sisters, Eva Barnes of
Danbury, Jennie M. Reeve of Southbury, Shirley Elhannoui of Lady Lake, Fla.,
and Sharon Orten of Waterbury; 11 nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces
and great-nephews.
Contributions in his memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western
Connecticut, 30 West Street, Danbury 06810.
Services were held October 8 at the Bouton Funeral Home. Burial followed in
Beck's Hill Cemetery, Vista, N.Y.
Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church St, Georgetown, was in charge of
arrangements.

John P. Dalles
John P. Dalles, the father of Colleen Swain of Sandy Hook, died September 27
in Ottawa, Canada.
A former resident of Norwalk, he was the husband of Evelyn Havelock Dalles of
Ottawa. The couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last June
with family and friends in Ottawa.
Mr Dalles also is survived by another daughter, Linda Dalles of Ridgefield;
two grandchildren, Spencer Dalles Swain and Morgan Eve Swain; his son-in-law,
Kenneth Swain of Sandy Hook; nephews and godsons John and David Havelock; his
brothers, Julius, Robert and Kenneth, their wives and children. He was
predeceased by an older brother, William.
Mr Dalles served in the US Army 12th Regiment during World War II,
participated in five campaigns and the landing at Utah Beach on D-Day and was
awarded a bronze star with oak leaf cluster. He also was a past master in the
Masons and was active in Lodge No 1103 AF & AM.
