Folk Legend & Spiritual Seeker Arlo Guthrie
To Perform Rotary Benefit Concert
BRIDGEPORT â Arlo Guthrie, a folk musician and activist whose 1967 anthem âAliceâs Restaurantââ defined the countryâs counterculture vibe, will perform on Friday, April 7, at 8 pm, at Klein Memorial Auditorium. Mr Guthrie is currently on his 40th anniversary tour with his son Abe, Gordon Titcomb, and The Massacree.
Rotary clubs in the Bridgeport area are cooperating to provide this benefit concert to the community. Profits from the event will be used for Rotaryâs Gift of Life program, which provides heart surgery and vital cardiac care to kids who will die without appropriate attention.
Mr Guthrieâs distinctive voice, gift for story-telling and prowess on guitar, piano and harmonica, may be due, in part, to genetics: He is, after all, the son of folk icon Woody Guthrie.
He is a pioneer in his own right, stretching the limits of his musical talents from the Woodstock Festival to Bostonâs Symphony Hall, while passionately promoting interfaith community service, education, healthcare and other endeavors through two not-for-profit organizations he founded.
While Mr Guthrieâs stature soared in 1967 with the release of Aliceâs Restaurant, and other early hits include the Woodstock favorite âComing in to Los Angelesââ and a definitive rendition of Steve Goodmanâs âCity of New Orleans,ââ in recent years Mr Guthrie has released new music while remaining true to his roots.
Tickets for Mr Guthrieâs April 7 performance are $25, $40 and $50. They can be purchased online at TheKlein.org, or through the Bridgeport Bluefish box office at 203-345-4800 extension 150.
The renovated Klein Memorial Auditorium, at 910 Fairfield Avenue, provides 1,400 comfortable seats with wonderful acoustics and safe, well lighted parking.
