National River Effort Starts At Home
The Saugatuck River Watershed includes all the land that drains to the Saugatuck River. From the headwaters of the Saugatuck in Ridgefield and the headwaters of the Aspetuck in Newtown, these rivers and their tributaries form a rich network of beautiful streams.
This system will benefit from a group cleanup at select sites throughout the watershed on Saturday, May 31, from 9 am to noon in celebration of National River Cleanup 2008. The cleanup, organized by The Nature Conservancyâs Saugatuck River Watershed Partnership, will consist of litter and debris removal; volunteers will be assigned a site, and will be provided with trash bags. All community members are invited to help out in this important effort to preserve our vital natural resources.
The Saugatuck River Watershed Partnership is a participant in National River Cleanup, the most popular and successful stream cleanup program in the country. To volunteer for the river cleanup or to suggest a cleanup site, contact Project Director Sally Harold at SHarold@ntc.org, or at 203-226-4991, extension 207. Volunteers should bring water and work gloves, and must come prepared to get dirty!
