Canine Advocates of Newtown (CAN) held a Valentine Boutique fundraiser on the afternoon of February 4, at the C.H. Booth Library. A wide variety of items was available for purchase with 50 percent of sales going to the advocates and their campaign to fund a new dog pound for Newtown.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 694 from the Magnet School in Danbury created several items themselves. They made pillows, and bandannas and cookie treats for dogs.
Gene Rosen, local photographer and CAN volunteer, was on hand to take orders for postage stamps that can be personalized with photos of a beloved pet.
Bethel artist Jennifer Ganser displayed samples of the various media in which she works. Ms Ganser works with acrylics, pastels, and watercolors. She does airbrush work on cars, motorcycles, and guitars and paints on slate and saws. She has obtained permission to work with Ansel Adams photographs, creating beautiful black and white acrylic copies of his famous works.
Robin Brinley, Premier Design Jewelry consultant, was selling jewelry and booking home parties.
Newtown newcomer and cake baker Joanna Perkins displayed scrumptious heart-shaped cakes that were for sale and had order forms available.
Newtown Chocolatier Jack Elias offered his delightful wares. CAN members created cat and dog silhouette frames and dog treats to sell.
CAN volunteer Virginia Jess estimated several hundred people visited the sale on Sunday afternoon. Mrs Jess expressed deep appreciation to library director Janet Woycik, who came in on her day off to be sure the sale went smoothly.
Mrs Jess said the sale netted more than $300 that afternoon. Final totals are not yet available as Mr Rosen, Ms Ganser, Ms Brinley and Ms Perkins are taking orders and 50 percent of sales from those orders will be donated to CAN.
