SENIOR BOYS
Newtown Gold 4, Weston A 2 â Brandon Body stopped 11 shots and the defensive front of Sean Maher, Jeremy Schaniel and Max Nacewicz shut down the Weston attack to make an early lead hold up for Newtown . Ryan Korth was a one-man wrecking crew â scoring a goal, adding two assists, scooping up eight ground balls, and winning eight of 11 faceoffs â to pace Newtown. Mike Zaccaro, Will Northrop, and Colby Summerlin each scored a goal while Lewis Thompson had an assist and six ground balls.
Newtown Gold 8, New Fairfield Red 3 â Kyle Vignone and Ryan Korth had two goals apiece as Newtown continued to get solid play from its midfielders in a dominating win over New Fairfield. Colby Summerlin and Lewis Thompson each had two assists. Will Northrop, Mike Zaccaro, Connor Halloran, and long stick defender Max Nacewicz â whose end-to-end run finished with a spinning inside move and shot that found its way to the back of the net â also scored. Sean Maher and Jeremy Schaniel were excellent on defense in support of goalie Brandon Body, who made 10 saves.
Newtown Gold 10, Ridgefield (8A) 9 â Colby Summerlin was at his acrobatic best, scoring two goals and handing out an assist as Newtown got a big win. Danny Sclafani and Connor Halloran each scored two goals, Ryan Korth scored a goal and had two assists, and Brandon Body made 10 saves. Lewis Thompson and Mike Zaccaro each had a goal and an assist and Kyle Vignone scored a goal to go with his team-high seven ground balls. Defenders Max Nacewicz and Josh Freitas shut down Ridgefieldâs two key attackers.
Ridgefield (7A) 5, Newtown White 4 â Colin Morris had two goals and Justin Brophy and Matt Vavrek added one each in a tough loss to Ridgefield. Trey Trudell and Cory Fisher each had assists, and Justin Spath made eight saves. Michael Lord won seven face-offs â five in the fourth quarter alone â and had eight ground balls.
Newtown White 8, New Fairfield Blue 3 â Justin Brophy scored three goals and added two assists as the Senior White Boys tamed New Fairfield. Michael Lord had two goals of his own while Colin Morris had a goal and an assist. Chris Tenney and Jake Enriquez each scored a goal and Trey Trudell had an assist. Goalie Justin Spath made seven saves in goal, supported by Will Fletcher and Kevin Dennis on defense. Hunter Bassett controlled face offs, and Ryan Brown, Austin Bonadio, and Robby Daigle were solid at midfield.
Brookfield B 9, Newtown Blue 3 â Brandon Cusmano had a goal and an assist for Newtown in the loss. Matt Genovese and Kyle Gallatin each scored goals. Nick Pedalino had six ground balls and Matt Grace made 14 saves in goal.
Newtown Blue 6, Weston B 5 â Matt Genovese, Liam Ferguson, Clark Giles, Nick Pedalino, Brandon Cusmano, and Nate Coleman scored goals to provide the offense. Evan Isaacs stepped up from his Junior Gold spot to fill in between the pipes and made six saves in his Senior debut.
Newtown Blue 5, Cheshire Red 1 â Kyle Gallatin, Thomas DiLuoffo, Liam Ferguson and Jordan Simonds scored goals as Mike Fitzsimons had an assist as Newtown stymied Cheshire. Matt Grace made 11 saves, support ably by Eric Johnson on defense.
SENIOR GIRLS
Newtown Gold 7, Southbury A 6 â With time winding down, goalie Jill Jagoe stopped two shots in the last minute to preserve the victory for Newtown. The defense was stellar and led by Jocelyn Toll, Maggie Korth, Kelly OâConnor and Nicole Gindraux and the attack was led by Kaitlin Brophy, Meredith Bridges, Kaitlyn Vos Winkel and Katie Canavan.
Darien (8A) 8, Newtown Gold 6 â After falling behind 6-1 the Newtown girls battled back with a furious second half rally. Kelly OâConnor and Kaitlin Brophy led the team in hustling up five ground balls each while the defense was anchored by Nicole Gindraux, OâConnor, Jocelyn Toll, and Maggie Korth. Brophy, Liz Emerson and Katie Canavan powered the attack.
Newtown Blue 9, Brookfield 5 â Lilly Rodriguez (3), Katelyn Kean (2), Megan Knox (2), Christina Gould and Stephanie Perrotti all scored to lead Newtown past Brookfield. Natalie Clark, Megan Knox, Christina Gould, Rachel Hyland and Caroline Lawrence all provided assists as Emma Glasrud had five saves in the cage.
JUNIOR BOYS
Newtown Gold 8, Weston A 1 â Newtown continued to use excellent team defense and unselfish offensive tactics to remain undefeated. Multiple goal scorers put the ball in the net for Newtown , including Ian Whaley, Cody Ryan, Graham Derrickson, Phil Reynolds, Jacob Newton-Tanzer, and Stefan Dullinger. James Marusi had four assists. Team defense was led by Tom Bauer and Brian Kruger, and Evan Isaacs continued to be impressive between the pipes with eight saves.
Newtown Gold 11, Litchfield Hills Navy 5 â Dan Hebert had a goal and five assists to lead Newtown to a convincing win in a cold Litchfield rain. Newtown out-shot Litchfield 26-7 and had a 40-18 advantage in groundballs. Nine players scored goals, including James Marusi, Connor Quinn, Parker Rodbell, Chris Erickson and Jacob Newtown-Tanzer.
Newtown Blue 8, Weston 1 â With a total of 50 ground balls, 16 shots, seven assists and eight goals on Saturday, the Junior Blue is a team on a roll. Andrew Derrickson, Chase Hutchison, Tommy Gleason, John Myers, and Steven Walsh all had goals. The mid-field and attack lines played aggressive and the defensive squad, anchored by Casey Fuller in goal, continued to display outstanding team work, allowing only four goals in the last two games.
Newtown Blue 8, Amity B 3 â Anders Fogelberg sparked the offense and Chase Wurtz, Mike Gallatin, Tom Gleason, were on top of the ground balls all game to lead Newtown. Andrew Derrickson had nine ground balls and a goal and Chase Hutchison came away with seven ground balls to go with his three goals. Max Lopez also scored a goal.
Newtown Blue 8, Weston B 1 â Chase Hutchison scored two goals, had four assists, and scooped 10 ground balls to pace Newtown. Tommy Gleason had three goals and Stephen Walsh had a goal and an assist. Casey Fuller made six saves in goal and KC Condon played tough on defense.
JUNIOR GIRLS
Newtown Blue 4, New Fairfield 3 â Brittany Boggs saved a blazing shot in the net with 2:30 minutes left in the game to help preserve the score and Meaghan Harkins tallied with one minute left to lift Newtown into the lead. Tressa Scott provided the key assist. Kelsey Packer, Kristie Vos Winkel and Scott also scored while Jillian Lyon had two ground balls and Julie LaPerch had two assists. Maggie Kost scooped four grounders in the game.
Newtown Blue 7, Wilton 5 â Maddie Fletcher, Paige Murphy and Brittany Emslie notched two assists apiece with goals from Emily Maher, Erin Kenning, Tressa Scott, Meaghan Harkins, Kristie Vos Winkel and Kelsey Packer in a win over Wilton. Sidney Hansen and Lauren Harrison were solid on defense while Amanda Crowell and Melissa Christiano made beautiful passes around the net. Nina Pedalino had three ground balls.
Newtown Blue 8, Simsbury 3 â Brittany Boggs made seven saves and had an assist in the win. Melissa Christiano and Brittany Emslie had four ground balls in the short game. Amanda Crowell and Lauren Harrison scored their first goals of the year.
Newtown Blue 5, Granby 1 â Tressa Scott and Erin Kenning scored goals with assists by Nina Pedalino and Sidney Hansen.
Newtown Blue 7, Somers 3 â Meaghan Harkins, Jaclyn Dailey, Shannon Deveney and Maggie Kost scored goals while Brittany Boggs made 5 saves.
Hadley (MA) 5, Newtown Blue 3 â Paige Murphy assisted on two goals by Julie LaPerch and Emily Maher. Kristie Vos Winkel scored another in the game.
Newtown Gold 8, Cheshire 2 â Carley Ferris and Julia Trudell each scored two goals while Julia DiLuoffo and Allison Samson had assists. Anna Northrop was outstanding in goal.
Newtown Gold 6, Avon 0 â Anna Northrop had three goals, Meaghan Brophy scored twice, and assists came from Tess Kneisel and Jane Sclafani in a win over Avon. Olivia Korth and Bryanna LeBlanc were supportive on defense.
Newtown Gold 4, Glastonbury 4 â Meaghan Brophy scored three goals and tess Kneisel added another as Newtown tied an excellent Glastonbury team. Bryanna LeBlanc made five saves in goal and Katie Mcmanus played great defense to help keep the game knotted.
Newtown Gold 4, East Longmeadow 1 â Julia Trudell scored a goal and had an assist to lead Newtown to a win against the tourney hosts. Caroline Kingsley and Taylor Reardon kept up the pressure on attack and Rachel Wiberg hustled well at D-wing.
Newtown Gold 3, Southbury 2 â Kelly OâConnell, Julia DiLuoffo, and Alexa Powell provided great defensive support as Newtown squeaked out a win. Julia Trudell scored a goal and had an assist to lead the offense.
Newtown Gold 11, Westport 1 â Caroline Kingsley, Julia Trudell and Meaghan Brophy each had two goals as Newtown overwhelmed Westport. Mary Beth Semosky and Nicole Rothenbucher teamed up to split the goalie duties and held the visitors to a single tally. Olivia Phenix was great on ground balls, and Brittany Cologna was intense on attack.

Newtown Gold 7, Weston 2 â In an amazing display of teamwork, the defense hunkered down and repelled some hard Weston rushes, the midfielders played smart and stayed on top of the action, and the attack pressured the Weston goal repeatedly in the win.
Newtown Gold 11, RELAX 5 â A solid win over RELAX was highlighted by a passing sequence that began with Christian Hoffman and continued through CJ Dunn, Jake Lambert, Conrad Morris and Robby Lasher. Phil Tobin, Colin Smalkais and Michael Braddick sparkled on defense as Jack Condon and Dunn shared goaltending duties in the second half.
BANTAM BOYS
In-House
Navy 4, Syracuse 4 â Chris Hartley had a solid all around game for Navy in the well played battle. Adam Weber returned after injury for a great half in goal and several offensive ground balls. Kyle Mangold had one of the four Navy goals and played a key defensive role. The Syracuse offensive drive was lead by Charlie Christo with three goals. Harry Depuy had an outstanding all field game with great work on both offense and defense as Matt Myers protected the Syracuse cage from many shots keeping the game tie up and very exciting.
Dartmouth 6, Carolina 4 â Clay Gattey had three goals and several ground balls to lead Dartmouth. Aidan Bowler, Mike Cook and Stephen Ferrigno tossed in one goal a piece. Shane Gattey had his first start at goal and did a fine job. The Carolina offense broke out for the first time this season as Nick Rubino and Andrew Svanda scored goals. Curtis Giles led the team with five groundballs and Patrick Conte had a strong second half performance in goal.
Harvard 3, Hofstra 3 â First half goals by Jeremy Doski, Andy Braun and Quinn Helmig gave Harvard the early lead. Hofstra battled back with goals from Ryan Sullivan, Jared Pearson and Ryan Drucker. Both teams played hard and despite an overtime session the game remained deadlocked at 3-3.
Navy 3, Harvard 2 â Chris Brown and John Rospenda provided solid all-around play in the Navy win ⦠each with one goal, several ground balls and a strong half in front of the cage taking shots. Max Weber worked the field hard all game resulting in one well-earned goal. Harvardâs Andrew Braun and Alex Hess each netted a goal. Another strong performance from goalie Michael Roche kept it close.
Syracuse 4, Dartmouth 2 â Solid play by Syracuse on ground balls and ball control allowed Grant Varnum, Charlie Christo and Greg Harrison the chance to score. Super team defense by the entire team kept Dartmouthâs scoring threats in check. Austin LeBlanc was solid in goal for Dartmouth. Shane and Clay Gattey had great passing and super shooting to score the teamâs goals.
Hofstra 7, Carolina 1 â Colin Thies scored his first goal of the season after a great first half in goal. Steven Faxlanger and Aaron Beckett helped Hofstra play well on both ends of the field. Carolinaâs Mitchell Savoca netted his first goal of the year. Adam Robertson used speed and quickness to move the ball across the field. Ethan Tousignant and David Corsi scooped multiple ground balls throughout the game.
