Independent Living Day is Saturday, April 29 — Once again, Newtown Youth Services’ volunteers will span the town helping senior citizens in need of assistance. There are morning and afternoon shifts or you can work all day. This is a great opportunity for community service hours. If you would like to lend a hand for this worthwhile project, call NYS.

Outstanding Youth Awards will be presented on Thursday, May 11, at 4 pm, at Booth Library. Nominees will be judged on outstanding qualities in the following categories: service to others, babysitting, friend, sister/brother, or any other outstanding quality.

Nomination forms will be available at Newtown Youth Services, schools, churches, Drug Center, and Booth Library. All nominations must be received by noon on Friday, April 28.

Newtown High School Post Prom Party will be held at Newtown High School on Friday, May 19. The party begins at midnight and runs until 5 am.

Parent Programs

Hope And Support — This group meets on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. If you are a parent or guardian with questions or concerns about your child’s possible or confirmed involvement with substances, you are welcome to attend this group.

Grandparents’ Group — “The Second Time Around: Raising Your Children’s Children” is a new support program for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. This is an ongoing group for which there is no fee. For further information call Roseanne at NYS.

Groups For Moms

Moms and Infants Support Group meets on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Gym Time meets on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Edmond Town Hall gym. This class is for walkers through preschool age children.

Youth Programs

NYCAAP meets on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 pm at the high school.

Sibshops will meet on Monday, April 3, from 5 to 7 pm.

Children of Divorce will meet on Mondays, April 10 and 24, from 6 to 7 pm.

All programs take place at Newtown Youth Services, 10 Glen Road in Sandy Hook, unless noted. Call 270-4335 for additional information.
