Van Vs Deer

Motorist Joaquim Horta, 51, of Brookfield, who was driving a commercial 2000 Ford Econoline 250 van northward near 40 Obtuse Road about 2:30 pm October 31, encountered a deer that had run onto the road, police report.

Horta swerved to avoid the deer. Another two deer then ran onto the road, causing Horta to again swerve to avoid the animals, police said. But in making that maneuver, Horta inadvertently struck a stone wall and tree, police said.

Horta, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Marijuana Charges

Police report they saw a vehicle traveling northward on Queen Street without a rear marker plate at about 8:30 pm November 5, so they stopped the driver on nearby Church Hill Road to investigate. Police said they smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

Police charged driver John Glenn Lewis, Jr, 19, of 301 South Main street with possession of marijuana, driving while under suspension, failure to return a suspended driver’s license, and improperly displaying a marker plate.

Police charged passenger Wesley Steinfeld, 19, of 16 Pine Tree Hill Road with possession of marijuana. After each person posted $100 bail, police released both for November 22 court appearances.

DUI Arrest

Police said they stopped motorist Mark Macura, 47, of Stratford near the intersection of Route 34 and Wasserman Way at about 6:11 pm November 5 for not wearing a seatbelt. Police said they also had received a cellular telephone call concerning Macura’s vehicle’s erratic operation.

After performing field sobriety tests, police charged Macura with driving under the influence and with failure to wear a seatbelt.

After processing the charges, police released Macura on $100 bail for a November 22 court appearance.

Camper Vandalism

Sometime on October 31 or November 1, someone damaged three windows on a camper that was parked at a Bancroft Road residence, police report. The vandalism caused an estimated $300 in damage. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact Patrol Officer William Hull at the police station, telephone 426-5841.

Window Damage

Sometime between noon on October 31 and 9:30 am on November 1, someone damaged two windows on a building under construction on Stony Brook Road, police report. Stony Brook Road is off Currituck Road.

The vandalism caused $1,850 in damage. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact Patrol Officer William Hull at the police station, telephone 426-5841.

Mitsubishi Hits Honda

Eastbound motorist Matthew Miller, 20, of 36 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 2000 Honda sedan on Sugar Street about 7:48 pm October 30, stopped for westbound traffic at Sugar Street’s intersection with Madison Drive, police said.

Eastbound motorist Harold Gross, 62, of 16 South Main Street, who was driving a 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante, then struck the Honda from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Gross a written warning for following too closely.

Three-Vehicle Crash

Motorist Christine Miller, 38, of 72 Forest Drive, who was driving a 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan eastward near 52 Church Hill Road about 5:20 pm November 2, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Eastbound motorist Angela Franzen, 41, of 11  Waterview Drive, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander, then stopped behind the minivan, police said.

Eastbound motorist Alison Cordova, 28, of 6 Pomperaug Road, who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord, then struck the rear end of Toyota, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of the minivan, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cordova a written warning for following too closely.

I-84 Incident

State police said that while driving eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 12:45 pm November 6, two motorists engaged in reckless driving and in intimidation while driving.

State police arrested each motorist on a charge of breach of peace. Charged were Jonathan Bovat, 23, of Waterbury, and Patrick DeGrosse, 53, of New Fairfield.

Each man posted $500 bail for November 14 court appearances, state police said.

Arrest Warrant

State police said they served an arrest warrant against Luis Otero, 36, of Hartford at Garner Correctional Institution on November 2 for being a fugitive from justice from Florida.

Otero was being held this week at Bridgeport Correctional Center on $40,000 bail for an upcoming court appearance on the charge, according to the state Department of Correction.

Boat Launch Incident

Police report they arrested three people late on the night of November 8, following an incident at the town boat launch off Hanover Road. The launch provides boat access to Lake Lillinonah.

Police said they spotted Tony Schick, 21, of Danbury driving a 1997 Acura Integra at about 10 pm at the boat launch, which is posted for closure at sunset. Police charged Schick with simple trespassing and with driving while under suspension.

There were two passengers in the Acura, according to police. Police charged each of them with two offenses.

Police charged Jenna Wilkie, 18, of 23 Castle Meadow Road with simple trespassing and with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police charged Allyson Ertl, 16, of Naugatuck with simple trespassing and with interfering with police.

The three are scheduled to appear November 22 in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Exit Ramp Crash

About 6:27 am November 3, motorist Stephen Culpepper, 52, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was leaving the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 and was preparing to make a left turn onto Wasserman Way, police said. As the traffic signal there turned yellow, Culpepper stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Felix Ghimbo, 37, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1992 Ford Thunderbird, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police charged Ghimbo with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and with a driver’s license violation.

Jeep Hits Truck

About 3:05 pm November 7, motorist David Jess, 65, of 48 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee westward on Appleblossom Lane, was facing bright sunshine while traveling, police said.

The Jeep then struck a parked Ford F-350 dumptruck, hit a tree, and then struck the dumptruck again, police report. Jess received minor injuries in the accident and refused medical attention, police said.

Police issued Jess a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Accident

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of South Main Street and Orchard Hill Road about 6:17 pm November 4.

Motorist David Creaturo, 17, of 32 South Main Street, who was driving a 1998 Ford Taurus northward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting to turn left onto Orchard Hill Road, police report. The Ford carried a 15-year-old passenger.

At that time, motorist Shannon McClary, 21, of 30 South Main Street was driving a 2003 Dodge Intrepid southward on South Main Street. The Dodge carried four passengers.

The Ford then attempted to make the left turn, resulting in a collision with the Dodge. There were no injuries.

Police charged Creaturo with making a restricted turn, with violating license restrictions on drivers under age 18 by having a passenger in the auto, and with use of a cellular telephone by a person under 18 while driving a vehicle.

 

Windshield Violation

Police said that on November 8 they charged motorist Sarah Corby, 24, of Bridgeport with driving while under suspension and with driving a vehicle with a defective windshield. Police released Corby on $50 bail for a November 22 court appearance.

Theft/Interfering

About 9 pm November 8, police found a motor vehicle on South Main Street with an improperly attached marker plate, so they investigated.

The marker plate was determined to have been stolen from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., police said. The vehicle’s driver, Jose Juarez, 27, of Trumbull, was determined to be the owner of the vehicle with the improperly attached marker plate, police said.

Police then charged Juarez with sixth degree larceny for the alleged theft of the marker plate and also with interfering with police.

Juarez was released on $100 bail for a November 22 court appearance.

Dodgingtown DUI

Motorist Robert Herrick, 78, of Greensboro, N.C., was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Cemetery Road and Route 302 in Dodgingtown about 5 pm November 9, after Herrick did not grant the right of way at a stop sign there, police report.

Police said their investigation resulted in charges against Herrick of driving under the influence, failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, and risk of injury to a minor. There were two minors in the vehicle that Herrick was driving, police said.

After processing, police released Herrick on $100 bail for a November 28 court appearance.

Swamp Road Arrest

About 6:30 am November 9, motorist Maycoll Hermsdorff, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Volkswagen GTI southward on Swamp Road, passed a noncontact vehicle in a no-passing zone at high speed and then sharply cut back into the southbound lane, causing the noncontact vehicle to come to an abrupt stop, police report.

After investigating, police arrested Hermsdorff on four charges. The charges are passing in a no-passing zone, traveling at an unsafe distance while passing, traveling unreasonably fast, and driving while under suspension.

After booking Hermsdorff on the arrest, police released him on $100 bail for arraignment on November 22 before a judge in Danbury Superior Court.

 

GMC Vs Chevrolet

About 6 pm November 9, motorist A.V. Cacciabaudo, 61, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 GMC sport-utility vehicle, was attempting to turn left from Mona Lisa Restaurant’s parking lot at 160 South Main Street in order to travel northward on South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Laura Brophy, 40, of 31 Jo-Mar Drive was driving a 2005 Chevrolet station wagon southward on South Main Street, police add.

As the GMC was attempting to make the turn, the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Cacciabaudo an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at private driveway.
