Police report they stopped motorist David Paniccia, 33, of Trumbull for driving 60 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone near 49 Queen Street about 2:38 pm on April 8.
Police charged Paniccia with speeding, driving with a suspended vehicle registration due to an automotive insurance violation, and failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.
Police released Paniccia on a written promise to appear in court on April 19.
Theft From Vehicle
Police learned at 8 am on April 5, that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked at a Dinglebrook Lane residence, and stole an electronic navigation unit from the vehicleâs glove box sometime between March 22 and April 5.
Police urge the public to keep vehicles locked when the vehicles are unattended, even when they are parked in residential driveways, to deter such thefts.
Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station.
Sugar Street Crash
Motorist Jacob Eventoff, 18, of 4 Sugar Lane, who was driving a 2003 Mazda 6 sedan westward on Sugar Street about 1:54 am on April 8, drifted across the roadâs center lines and then went off the left side of the road, striking at tree at 49 Sugar Street, and then striking some bushes and a rock wall at 51 Sugar Street, police said.
Eventoff was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for failure to drive to the right.
Found Property
Police report that a handbag containing miscellaneous items was found on Pond Brook Road and then turned over to them on the morning of April 1. The handbag has the Spanish wording âfruta de oro tarazuâ on it, police said.
Police are holding the handbag for safekeeping. The owner may claim it by contacting police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841. Officer Bart Lorancaitis is investigating.
Four Violations
Police said that while on patrol at about 6:43 am on April 7, they stopped motorist Steve Osmolik, 21, of 277 South Main Street on Button Shop Road, near South Main Street, to investigate.
Police said they charged Osmolik with failure to display a front marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving with a suspended license.
Police released Osmolik on a written promise to appear on April 24 in Danbury Superior Court.
Rings Found
Police said that on the morning of April 7, two silver-colored finger rings were found adjacent to a fence by the soccer fields in the vicinity of the tennis courts at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook. Police are holding the rings for safekeeping. The owner of the rings may contact Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station to claim them.
Items Found
On the evening of April 8, police learned that a set of golf clubs and a backpack were found at Head Oâ Meadow School at 94 Boggs Hill Road. Police are holding the items for safekeeping. The owner should contact police to claim the items.
SUV Off Road
Motorist Catarina Francisco Rodrigues, 17, of Danbury was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV eastward on Botsford Hill Road at about 12:16 am on April 8 and then drove under the Housatonic Railroad overpass, but lost control of the SUV on a sharp curve to the left, with the SUV then striking an embankment along the right road shoulder, police said.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Rodrigues to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation, police said. Police said they verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.
Double Turn
About 10:37 am on April 7, motorist Kevin Hitchcock, 42, of 16 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan, was waiting on westbound Ethan Allen Road in order to make a right turn onto northbound South Main Street, police said.
Motorist Charles Loomis, 54, of 5 Farrell Road, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape SUV which was hauling a trailer, was behind the Honda and also was waiting to make a right turn, police said.
Both vehicles then attempted turn right at the same time and the trailer that was hauled by the Ford made contact with the Honda, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Loomis an infraction for passing on the right.
South Main Street
Police report an accident at the intersection of South Main Street at Button Shop Road at about 6:29 pm on April 7.
Motorist Lily Trotta, 17, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2000 Buick LeSabre sedan on Button Shop Road, stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection, police said.
At that time, motorist Christopher Jennings, 19, of 20 Georges Hill Road was driving a 1991 Ford Mustang coupe northward on South Main Street, police said.
The Buick then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, but cut off the Ford, police said.
The Ford did not make contact with the Buick, but the Ford went into a skid and came to rest against a metal pole, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Trotta an infraction for failure to obey a traffic control signal.
Toddy Hill
Police report they stopped motorist Kenneth Wilcox, 67, of Bridgeport for driving a 2002 Subaru Forester 52 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone on southbound Toddy Hill Road at about 9:28 pm on March 31.
After investigating, police charged Wilcox with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration. Police released Wilcox on a written promise to appear on April 17 in Danbury Superior Court.
Cold Spring Road
A two-vehicle accident occurred about 4:30 pm on April 3 on eastbound Cold Spring Road at its intersection with South Main Street.
Police said that the front end of a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Colleen Carriero, 43, of Monroe, made contact with the rear end of a 2006 Jeep Wrangler convertible SUV driven by Lynn Nagy, 53, of 38 Cold Spring Road. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Warrant
Newtown Police report they served an arrest warrant against Alfred Gfroehrer, 39, of Enfield on April 11 at Danbury Superior Court.
Police arrested Gfroehrer on charges of credit card theft, third-degree identity theft, and three counts of sixth-degree larceny.
Gfroehrer was held on $25,000 bail and then arraigned on the charges that day in court, according to police.
Police obtained the warrant for his arrest after investigating a complaint against Gfroehrer which they received last December.
Wheelbarrow
Sometime between April 6 and April 9, someone stole a dark green wheelbarrow from a property on High Bridge Road. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Warrant
Newtown police said that at about 10:30 am on April 10, they arrested Ismael Agosto, 28, of Waterbury on a warrant at the Waterbury police station, charging Agosto with sixth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.
Police obtained the warrant for Agostoâs arrest after investigating an October 15, 2011, complaint from a Newtown resident that a blank check had been stolen from the residentâs truck and then cashed, police said.
After processing, police released Agosto on $5,000 bail for an April 25 court appearance.
Riverside Thefts
Police said that in recent days there have been several thefts of valuable items from within unlocked, parked vehicles in the Alpine Drive-Underhill Road area of the Riverside section at Lake Zoar.

Police urge residents to keep their vehicles locked when unattended.
DUI Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Monica V. Gallegos-Escobar, 45, of Trumbull went to the police station on the afternoon of April 9 and was charged with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn in connection with a one-vehicle accident that occurred last November 2.
Police have said that Gallegos-Escobar was driving a 2010 Audi Q-5 SUV northward near 266 South Main Street at about 2:35 am on November 2, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a large rock and overturned.
Gallegos-Escobar was transported to Danbury Hospital following that accident for a medical evaluation, police have said.
On April 9, police released her on $2,500 bail for an April 24 court appearance.
