Super Bowl:
Party For Less
ROCKVILLE, MD. â As a big party day, Super Bowl Sunday kicks off the year with hard-hitting football and belt-bulging snacks. People beef up their living rooms with extra chairs, pack coolers with ice, and throw diets out the window in anticipation of good competition and good food. But while the suspense of the game may have you on your knees, the cost of putting together a party can have you praying you win the office pool.
âEveryone wants to have a holiday get-together or dinner party with friends, but the cost of entertaining can really add up,â said Pam Rhode, president of Myvesta, a nonprofit consumer education organization. âMany people feel that they canât have their friends or family over because itâs too expensive. Nothing could be further from the truth.â
Myvesta has launched a new section of its website dedicated to inexpensive recipes and entertaining ideas. Currently the section features recipes for a Super Bowl party including taco dip, pickle roll ups, homemade boursin-style cheese, and Big Game Chili. The organization is looking for recipes and ideas for other events to be submitted from people across the United States. Each person whose recipe or idea is selected will receive a free âDebt Sucksâ bumper sticker, and names will be posted alongside recipes on the website.
âAs different holidays and events come up over the next year, our website will be featuring the best ideas for inexpensive entertaining submitted from people across the country,â Ms Rhode said. âFrom Valentineâs Day to kidsâ birthday parties, weâll be covering it all.â
