Off Road

Motorist Anne Stein, 51, of 14 Yogananda Street was driving a 1994 Mercedes-Benz E-320 station wagon eastward on Osborne Hill Road, near Sutherland Drive, about 2 pm October 30, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Stein to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the scene. The accident is under investigation, police said.

Currituck Crash

Motorist Jason Feaser, 30, of New Milford was driving a 2001 Honda Accord southward on Currituck Road, in a line of traffic that was following a school bus, about 8 am October 24, when the Honda was struck from behind by motorist Bruce Panor, 54, of 9 Obtuse Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle, police said.

Police said Panor told them that the sun was in his eyes, and that he did not see the Honda slowing down.

There were no injuries. Police issued Panor a written warning for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-car accident on Church Hill Road at the entrance to the Blue Colony Diner about noon on October 25.

Motorist Ronald Goslee, 59, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry, was traveling eastward on Church Hill Road in the right-turn-only lane for eastbound Interstate 84, police said.

At that time, westbound motorist Roger Snow, 48, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, was stopped and attempting to turn left into the Blue Colony Diner driveway, police said.

The Pontiac turned left and the two vehicles collided. Janice Goslee, 71, of Waterbury, who was a passenger in the Toyota, received treatment for a head cut at the scene, police said. Police issued Snow a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Aluminum Boat

Police report that sometime between 11 am October 26 and 4:30 pm October 28, someone stole an aluminum rowboat and outboard motor from a personal dock located on Lake Lillinonah, behind 190 Hanover Road.

Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

 

Mailbox Damaged

Sometime overnight on October 25–26 someone struck a mailbox with a vehicle at 23 Narragansett Trail. The mailbox was pulled out of the ground and dragged onto the road. A lawn was damaged. Police ask anyone with information about who created the damage to contact them.

Littering Charge

On October 25, police learned that trash and several pieces of old furniture had been dumped on private property on Huntingtown Road. An investigation resulted in police charging Justin Harding, 19, of 33 Elm Drive with littering. Littering carries a $219 fine.

DUI Charge

Police said they received a witness’s report on the night of October 31 that a woman motorist was driving erratically.

Police said they went to 8 Blakeslee Drive to investigate the report. In investigating, police gave motorist Eileen O’Gorman, 37, of that address, field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to police.

Police charged O’Gorman with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. Police said they additionally charged O’Gorman with risk of injury to a minor because her daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Police released O’Gorman on a $100 bond for a November 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Little Brook Lane

Motorist Aaron Cernick, 18, of 18 Little Brook Lane was driving a 1991 Mercury Sable southward on that street about 1:50 pm October 26, when as he began to negotiate a curve, the vehicle went into a skid and slid off the southbound road shoulder, striking a utility pole and then hitting a tree, police said. Cernick received a cut and bruise in the accident, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident, but Cernick refused medical attention, police said.

Police issued Cernick a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Tree Hits Truck

Motorist Robert Tanner, 75, of 2 Brookwood Drive was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Route 302, just east of its intersection with Head of Meadow Road, at about 9 am October 29, when a tree fell onto the truck’s hood and windshield, police said.

The fallen tree shattered the truck’s windshield, cutting Tanner’s hand, police said. Volunteer ambulance staffers treated him at the scene. There was no enforcement taken.

Castle Hill Crash

Motorist Edward Abdella, 65, of Washington, Conn., was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck eastward on Castle Hill Road, near King Street, about 2:30 pm October 26, when while negotiating a curve on the wet road, the truck went out of control, crossed the road’s centerline, reentered the eastbound lane and then went off the right side of the road, entering a wooded area, police said.

Abdella was not injured. The truck was towed out of the woods. Police issued Abdella a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Toyota Vs Honda

Motorist Deborah Adams, 43, of 24 Sherman Street was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, about 2:30 pm October 25, when the front end of the Toyota struck the rear end of a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Amy Anzilotti, 35, of 55-A Scudder Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Adams for failure to travel a safe distance apart.

Hawleyville Collision

Motorist Susan Toll, 75, of 4 Pocono Road, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, was traveling northward on Pocono Road and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Old Hawleyville Road at about 2:45 pm October 26, police said.

The Volkswagen then pulled out into the intersection and collided with a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan being driven on Old Hawleyville Road by Kristine Silva, 35, of Milford, police said.

The minivan carried four passengers, one whom of whom experienced general anxiety due to the accident, police said.

Police said they issued Toll an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Chrysler Vs Ford

Police report a collision between a minivan and a sport-utility vehicle at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville at about 3:20 pm October 26.

A 2000 Ford sport-utility vehicle driven by Susan Blizman, 56, of Bethel, which was stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection, was struck from behind by motorist Charles Sansolo, 53, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, police said. 

There were no injuries. Police issued Sansolo a written warning for following too closely.

Trespassing

Following an incident on the morning of November 1, police charged Jonathan Lambo, 19, of 8 Country Squire Road with first degree trespassing.

Police said Lambo was at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street and was asked to leave the premises due to prior problems. Lambo had been banned from the store by store management, police said.

Lambo created problems at the store on November 1 and store management filed a formal complaint with police, resulting in Lambo’s arrest, police said. Police released him on a promise to appear in court on November 4.

Chevrolet Off Highway

State police report that motorist Heather White, 27, of Danbury was driving a 1998 Chevrolet coupe eastward on Interstate 84, about one mile west of Exit 10, about 8 pm November 2, when she lost control of the auto, went off the right road shoulder, hit some steel-cable guardrailing and went down an embankment, striking a tree. The accident damaged about 200 feet of guard cabling.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported White to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, state police said. State police issued White a motor vehicle warning.

Drug Charges

Police report that school administrators detained Newtown High School student John Orzechowski, 16, of 4 Brookwood Drive at the school on the morning of November 3, after which a search of Orzechowski turned up a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police charged Orzechowski with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Orzechowski into the custody of a parent for a November 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Halloween Vandalism

Police report cases of Halloween vandalism at Old Castle Road, Kent Road, Castle Hill Road, Jeremiah Road, and Schoolhouse Hill Road.

In the area of Old Castle Road, Kent Road, and Castle Hill Road, the residents of at least six homes reported vandals damaging their decorative driveway lamps. Also, the vandals damaged mailboxes in that area. Estimated damage in that area is at least $1,500, police said.

Also, a residence on Schoolhouse Hill Road was the target of vandals, who broke two decorative lamps mounted on pillars at the end of a driveway, police said. Damage there is estimated at $500.

Also, vandals damaged a mailbox at a Jeremiah Road residence.

Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on who did the damage to contact them at 426-5841.

False Statement

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Kristen Lynn Corey, 23, of Waterbury turned herself over to police on the afternoon of November 3 and was charged with making a false statement.

Last August 19, Corey had told police that she had been the victim of an early morning sexual assault by an unknown assailant while she was parked at the Shell gas station on Church Hill Road, police said. An investigation into Corey’s claim led to her being charged with making a false statement, police said.

Police released Corey on a promise to appear November 20 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

 

Currituck Road

Police said they stopped motorist Robert Benko, 33, of Southbury for driving too fast on Currituck Road on November 3. An investigation led to police charge Benko with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension. Police issued Benko a misdemeanor summons. He is scheduled to appear in court November 19.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Plumtrees Road and Taunton Hill Road about 2:45 pm November 2. The four-way intersection is controlled by four stop signs.

Motorist Matthew Lehane, Jr, 16 of Bethel, who was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastward on Plumtrees Road, failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with motorist Yolanda Roman-Vega, 37, of 16 Jangling Plains Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southward on Taunton Hill Road, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Roman-Vega to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a wrist injury, police said. Police issued Lehane an infraction ticket for failure to obey a stop sign.

Nissan Off Road

Motorist Chris Arnold, 20, of 49 West Street was driving a 1999 Nissan Sentra eastward on Castle Hill Road, near King Street, about 12:30 pm November 4, when the Nissan went out of control on a sharp curve, crossed the road and went off the westbound road shoulder, police said. Arnold was not injured. Police issued Arnold a written warning for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Motorcycle Accident

An accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck occurred about 12:42 pm November 1 at 40 Berkshire Road, police said.

As motorcyclist Kenneth Scheiber, 39, of 2 Johnny Appleseed Drive was driving a 2003 Yamaha eastward on Berkshire Road, motorist Harold Morrison, 56, of Sandy Hook was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck out of a driveway at 40 Berkshire Road, police said.

At that time, the motorcycle went into a slide and fell over, ejecting Scheiber from it, police said. Scheiber was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. The accident is under investigation.

BMW Vs Jaguar

Motorist Wendelin Nelson, 46, of 12 Briarwood Lane was driving a 2001 BMW 325-I sedan southward on Main Street and was approaching a line of stopped southbound vehicles, which were stopped at the flagpole and waiting to turn left onto Church Hill Road, at about 7 am November 5, police said.

As the BMW was passing the line of stopped vehicles on the right, it collided with motorist Mario Zigerlig, 56, of 2 Topside Lane, who was driving a 1988 Jaguar XJ-6 sedan across Main Street from Church Hill Road to West Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Nelson for passing on the right.

Chevrolet Vs Ford

At about 9:26 pm November 5, motorist Stephen Greytak, 16, of 47 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina, pulled out of a driveway at 3 Riverside Road and collided with westbound motorist Pedro Santa, 33, of 169 Riverside Road, who was driving a 1997 Ford Contour, police said.

Santa claimed neck pain, but refused medical treatment, police said. Police issued Greytak an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

Boulevard Deer

Police report motorist Carl Trompetta, 38, of Shelton informed them that as he was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima northward on The Boulevard on November 5 when he encountered a deer on the road. Trompetta braked the auto, but skidded on the wet road and struck guardrailing along the southbound road shoulder, police said. Trompetta was not injured, police said.
