Cello Octet To Open Merryall Season

NEW MILFORD — An exceptional new ensemble of eight cellos will visit Merryall Center for the Arts direct from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. for the first concert of Merryall’s 2001 season.

Following an exciting initial concert last fall in which they performed one of the most challenging works for cello ensemble, Pierre Boulez’s Messagescuisse, the group has decided to band together in a more permanent fashion. Since only very few pieces have ever been written for a group of seven or eight cellos, they have commissioned new works specifically written for them.

Tarab Cello Ensemble will be in New Milford on Saturday, May 12, for an 8:30 pm concert. Season tickets are $75 (single) and $150 (family). Single performance tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door the night of the performance by reserving in advance by calling 860-354-7264.

Merryall Center for the Arts is on Chapel Hill Road, off Merryall Road.
