OBITS (Ferris; Boa)
Helen C. Ferris
Helen Cartwright Ferris, 93, a Newtown resident for 70 years, died January 20
at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Donald B. Ferris, Sr, and
resided at 2 Head O' Meadow Road.
Mrs Ferris was born in Woodbury on May 31, 1904, a daughter of Howard and
Clara Minor Cartwright. She was a graduate of Woodbury High School.
Mrs Ferris was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables.
She was a member of the Pohtatuck Grange and was a longtime member of the
Fairfield County Homemakers. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in
Newtown.
Mrs Ferris is survived by a son, Donald B. Ferris, Jr, of Newtown; a daughter,
Marie Ferris Walker of Newtown; three grandchildren, Dale Walker and Darlene
Walker Spencer of Newtown and Linda Walker Uhde of Sandy Hook; two great
grandchildren, Karla and Jeffrey Spencer of Newtown; and several nieces and
nephews.
Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday,
January 22, 7-9 pm.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, at 10:30 am in the Honan Funeral
Home with the Rev Kathleen Adams-Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in
Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.

Jack Boa
Eliseu "Jack" Boa, 71, father of Regina Schermerhorn of Newtown, died January
21 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Maria Regina (Amaral) Boa of
Danbury.
Mr Boa was born in Vila Franca do Deao, Portugal, on March 6, 1926, a son of
the late Jose Joaquim and Delfina (de Jesus) Boa. He was reared and educated
in Portugal and moved to the United States in 1948. He worked in construction
in his earlier years, and he later owned several local businesses, most
recently the former Belvedere Cafe.
Mr Boa was active in the local Portuguese community and was a lifetime member
and past president of both the Portuguese American Club and The Sons of
Portugal.
Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two other daughters, Delfina
do Nascimento of Danbury and Fernanda Resendes of Bethel; three brothers,
Arthur of Danbury and Joao and Germano, both of Portugal; three sisters, Alda
Rodriques of Danbury, Sara Coelho of Portugal, and Maria da Jesus Boa of
Brazil; five grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Irene DeMoura.

Calling hours are Thursday, January 22, 5 to 9 pm at the Green Funeral Home,
57 Main Street, Danbury.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, at 10 am from the funeral
home to St Peter Church in Danbury, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will be in St Peter Cemetery.
