Art History Lecture Series

KENT — The Gallery at the Kent Art Association will be the site for a series of art history presentations featuring Connie Horton, a past president of KAA. Ms Horton, who holds a master’s degree in art history, will give a survey of art on Fridays at 7 pm.

Her first presentation, on August 4, will be “Renaissance – Piety vs Immorality (this is like a soap opera).”

Then presentation scheduled for September 15 is “Impressionism – Beauty vs Cruelty (what you didn’t know),” and on September 29 Ms Horton will present “German Expressionism – predictions of the horror of the 20th Century.”

Programs will provide a much fuller appreciation of paintings usually overlooked and fresh looks at some favorites. Each program will run about one hour and will be held in the air-conditioned KAA gallery.

Donations will be accepted.

Currently on display at the gallery is the juried show of 144 paintings and sculpture as part of the 2006 President’s Art Show & Sale. Artists from three states are represented and all works are for sale. The show runs through September 4 (Labor Day).

For more information on the presentations and upcoming events at KAA, visit KentArt.org or call The Gallery at the Kent Association at 860-927-3989, during gallery hours (Thursday through Sunday, 1 to 5 pm). The Gallery at the Kent Art Association is at 21 South Main Street (Route 7), just south of the monument.
