Danbury Brass Band At St Peter’s

DANBURY — The Danbury Brass Band will present its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday afternoon, December 26, at St Peter’s Church on Main Street. The concert will be at 3 pm and is free of charge.

Performing guests of the Danbury Brass Band will be the Choir of St. Mary’s of Bethel, and Danbury piper Vic Matthews.

The concert will feature the world-premiere performance of Fanfare for Cecilia by Ed Thieberger and a new work by Alan Raph called Rodrigo (a tribute to the late Spanish composer). Also being played for the first time will be a medley of Christmas selections by Angelo Testanero, leader of the well-known Sonny Carroll Big Band, and an unusual work by Alan Hovhaness for trumpet and organ, arranged by the soloist Phil Leslie.

The St Mary’s Choir will perform under the direction of Mary Raymond and will be accompanied by the organ, the piano, the brass band, and will then perform a cappella.

Other favorites by Danbury Brass Band will include Vaclav Nelhybel’s Wenceslas and Rod Levitt’s Wintry Tune. Also, Bill Werner’s arrangement of Good Christian Men Rejoice and a special treatment of What Child Is This?

For further information, music director Alan Raph can be reached at 746-4222.
