Petition For Choice
Petition For
Choice
To the Editor:
Last weekâs voter petition never got off the ground. It never had to because the selectmen recognized that this should be a matter for the voters to decide, and approved going to a third machine counted referendum in lieu of holding a âtown meetingâ as called for in the charter. In thinking about how to improve our situation with respect to this and future budgets it occurs to me that we need to make two changes to the town charter. The first is to do away with the âTown Meetingâ provision and stick with a machine vote until something passes. The second is to split the BOE and selectmenâs budget into two numbers to be approved separately.
The Charter Revision Commission is currently working on updating the charter but neither of these changes has been made, being dismissed as âToo divisive.â This is the commission and how they can be contacted if you feel that these proposals are not âToo divisive:â
