Newtown Resident Receives PhD

Bethel native and Newtown resident Sharon Epple Beitel received her PhD in educational administration from the University of Connecticut on May 7. Her doctoral dissertation was entitled “Applying Artificial Intelligence Data Mining Tools to the Challenges of Program Evaluation.”

Dr Beitel most recently served as principal of Booth Free and Burnham Elementary Schools in Roxbury and Bridgewater, respectively, before spending the past year as a full-time doctoral student.

Dr Beitel was recently hired by the Brookfield Board of Education to be the principal of the Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, which serves 700 students in grades two through four.
