Moving Violations

Police said they stopped motorist Richard Young, 39, of 5 Shepaug Road, Sandy Hook, on Mile Hill Road at about 10:45 pm December 18.

Police said they charged Young, who was driving a 1985 Ford pickup truck, with speeding and with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.

Police released Young for a January 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Truck Vs SUV

Police report a two-vehicle collision about 9 am December 20 on Route 34, near Great Ring Road.

Police said motorist Rosamma Babykutty, 49, of Danbury was driving a 1998 Mazda MPV westbound on Route 34 when she lost control of the sport-utility vehicle and entered the eastbound lane, striking eastbound motorist Michael Colburn, 33, of Derby, who was driving a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Babykutty and Colburn to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. A passenger in the Ford, Chris Dodge, 33, of Derby, also reported injuries, police said.

Police issued Babykutty an infraction ticket on a charge of making a restricted turn.

Route 34 Crash

Police said motorist Leonidas Siguenza, 20, of Danbury, who was driving a 1993 Honda Civic eastbound on Route 34 about 6:30 am December 18, went off the road and entered a ditch along the westbound lane.

Siguenza and a passenger, Jose Rolondo Ordonez Arias, 26, of Charlotte, N.C., were transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said.

Huntingtown Cables

Police report motorist Charles P. Dorey, 30, of 159 Huntingtown Road was driving a 1985 Toyota pickup truck southbound on that road, north of Maltbie Road, about 6:45 am December 18 when he drove over some downed telephone and cable television utility lines which were laying across the street.

The collision damaged the truck’s muffler. There were no injuries.

Acura Accident

Police said motorist Paul Tsakonas, 27, of West Haven, who was driving a 1993 Acura Integra LS westbound on Route 34 about 4:15 am December 20, lost control of the auto as he negotiated a curve, crossed over the left side of the road and hit an embankment and a utility pole.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Tsakonas to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Police issued him a written warning for failure to keep to the right.

    

Pole Bridge DUI

Police report they observed motorist Alyssa Raffaele, 30, of 11 Spring Trail driving a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim on Route 34 about 12:08 am December 23 without headlights on. Raffaele failed to keep to the right of the road’s centerline after turning left onto Pole Bridge Road, police said.

Police said they stopped and investigated and charged Raffaele with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and operating a motor vehicle at night without the headlights on.

After processing, police released her for a January 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Volvo Vs Subaru

Police said motorist Allen L. Williams, III, 45, of New Milford was driving a 1999 Subaru Forester southbound on South Main Street near the Ram Pasture on December 23 when he slowed down and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Christopher R. Carley, 21, of 66 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1988 Volvo. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Carley for following too closely.

Garner Incident

State police said a Garner Correctional Institution inmate whom they identified only as “Stevens,” while being escorted from a shower room to his cell December 22, grabbed a milk crate and struck a correction officer identified only as “Vargas” on the left arm. Prison staff members then subdued Stevens and took him to his cell, state police said. Vargas received minor cuts on his arm, state police said. The incident is under investigation.

Car Vs Tree

State police report that motorist Daniel R. Macioce, Jr, 37, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1989 Buick LeSabre in the left lane of westbound Interstate 84 east of Exit 9 about 3:20 am December 23, drifted onto the left road shoulder, continued onto the median, and struck a tree. The Buick was totaled. Macioce had been using a seat belt, state police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a minor head injury, state police said. State police warned Macioce for failure to stay in the established lane.

Interstate Crash

About 7 pm December 21, motorist Clifford A. Beardsley, 57, of Brewster, N.Y., was driving a 1994 Ford pickup truck eastbound on Interstate 84 west of Exit 10, when he lost control of the truck and struck a tree off the right road shoulder. The Newtown Ambulance Corps transported Beardsley to Danbury Hospital for treatment. State police warned him for making an unsafe lane change.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Marylou Chaffee, 63, of Ridgefield was driving westbound on Interstate 84 west of Exit 10 about 7:15 am December 21 in a 1998 Subaru station wagon, when she was struck from behind by a westbound 1995 Acura sedan driven by Andrew S. Bayer, 50, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Bayer was following too closely.

 

Pontiac Leaves Road

State police said motorist Zachary R. Angelone, 18, of Newburgh, N.Y., who was driving a 1986 Pontiac coupe eastbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 10 about 2:30 am December 20, lost control on the snow-covered road, left the road and struck several trees.

Angelone was not injured, state police said. State police said they warned him for traveling too fast.

Truck Vs Car

State police report an accident between a 1998 Ford Escort station wagon and a tractor-trailer truck about 2 pm December 20 on westbound Interstate 84, just east of the Currituck Road overpass.

Police said tractor-trailer truck driver Roger J. Desroches, 47, of Flat Rock, Michigan, was in the road’s climbing lane and made an unsafe lane change where that lane ends, striking the passenger side of the Ford, which was being driven in the center lane by Sally L. Martin, 67, of Harwichport, Mass.

There were no injuries. State police warned Desroches for making an unsafe lane change.
