Occupation: I am a commercial photographer working mostly in New York City doing advertising and editorial photography. Iâve been doing some advertising work, family portraits, and events up here in Newtown, too.
Family: My wife, Michel, and our new baby, Benjamin. He was born April 16.
Pets: We have a dog, Bella. Sheâs kind of like our firstborn. Bella is 7 years old, a border collie/Lab mix, and gets along wonderfully with the newborn.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived here about 1½ years, since 2006. We moved here from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Prior to that we lived in New York City where I had a photo business in SoHo until 9/11. Weâre happy to come here and start a family and have a nice, quiet home.
Did coming through 9/11 and Katrina change your life? It made me realize how precious life is and how life can change in a moment. It makes you appreciate living in the moment.
What do you like to do in your free time? I love tag sales and flea markets. We have had two New Yearâs Eve parties since we moved to Newtown and last year I looked around at everyone at the party and realized most of the people there we had met at tag sales. I enjoy yard work and gardening, too, and do personal photography.
Do you have a favorite artist? One of my favorite photographers was my mentor, Irving Penn. I worked for him for six years. Heâs a New York photographer, in his 90s, a fashion and portrait photographer under contract with Vogue. It was wonderful to be able to work with him.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Probably Italy, where I lived as a kid. My father worked for 3M and we moved around. When Michel and I got engaged, I said, âI know where weâre going for our honeymoon â Positano.â Itâs a little town outside of Naples on the Amalfi Coast. Itâs a former fishing village built on the cliffs. There are beautiful views, good food, and everybody knows everybody else.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Probably the people. There are really good-hearted people here. Weâve ended up with more friends in the year and a half weâve been here than the five years we lived in New Orleans. The people are wonderful.
If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future? I think Iâd want to go to the future just to see whatâs become of everyone and everywhere.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Enjoy what you do. Try to be happy and try to learn something new each day.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? The Creamery, any time I pass it. Ba-da-Bing is my weakness.
