A Road Name Change In Botsford
The Board of Selectmen Monday voted to change the name of a section of
Washbrook Road from Route 25 to its intersection with Cold Spring Road.
From now on, this section of road will be known as "Bryan Lane." Last summer,
residents had requested that the name of this unused section of road be
changed to avoid confusion when visitors or emergency personnel try to locate
houses.
There are no homes on this portion of the road.
In August, the Bob Cascella-led Board of Selectmen approved a road-work
agreement for a proposed housing complex on Washbrook Road in the Botsford
area.
The approval came only after the selectmen requested that development group
R&G Riverview, LLC, create a second access road to the 49-unit affordable
housing unit for safety reasons. They were concerned that emergency vehicles
might be unable to reach the area if the main road was ever to become blocked.
At that time, the selectmen suggested extending an unused portion of Washbrook
Road out to nearby Cold Spring Road.
Several residents opposed this plan. They did not have a problem with the
building proposal. Their concern was the access road that would intersect with
Cold Spring Road near Middle Gate School, creating increased traffic. They
presented the last Board of Selectmen with a petition signed by residents
seeking to have the unused portion of Washbrook Road changed to another name.
The selectmen agreed to change the name and to put up gates on either end of
the accessway, to be used only in an emergency.
