Due to an editing error, a sentence in the story titled “Local Political Races Already Attracting Newcomers,” which ran in The Bee July 13, incorrectly suggested that petitioning first selectman candidates Jay Mattegat and Christian Qualey were business partners in a South Main Street bridal shop. Mr Qualey is a neighboring commercial business owner.

Also First Selectman Herb Rosenthal was incorrectly quoted as saying he would give the Democratic Town Committee 30-days notice before the July 24 caucus about his intentions to seek another term. Mr Rosenthal said he would give the DTC 30-days notice if he decided not to seek another term.

A story published in the July 6 edition of The Newtown Bee about a shortfall in insurance savings to the school district prompting a request for a special appropriation of funds incorrectly reported an initial savings of $484,000 resulting from a Board of Finance reduction. The $484,000 in anticipated savings represented a final Legislative Council recommendation encompassing the combined school board and town side of the health insurance budget line.
