Clockwise from right, the St Rose Cub Scouts and parents of Pack 570 celebrated Earth Day by renewing the gardens at 38-40 Church Hill Road. The gardens were cleaned and replanted with new flowers in appreciation to St Rose for sponsoring the Cub Scouts. The scouts expresses special thanks to their community sponsors, Carminuccioâs for supplying pizza and drinks, Jim Walsh and LRM Landscaping for the donation of mulch, and Shorttâs Farm and Garden for donating flowers.
Hawley Schoolâs Cub Scout Pack 70 recently made a trip to Battleship Cove, Fall River, Mass., to visit the worldâs largest collection of historic naval ships. After touring the battleship Massachusetts, destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr, submarines, and PT boats, the scouts, parents, and leaders spent the night on board the battleship. The battleship Massachusetts fought in 36 World War II engagements without losing a single serviceman. The pack is seen here on the foredeck of the ship.
Members of Middle Gate Schoolâs Cub Scout Pack 270 have been volunteering their services at Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge since earlier this winter. In February, the scouts delivered Valentineâs Day cards to Ashlar residents. In March, the boys set up 500 luminaries for their annual Wintergathering. In April, the scouts cleaned up litter and filled flower boxes with plants they had started from seed.
Boy Scouts, from left, Joseph Tether, Scott Preszler and Trevor Gaines, members of Pack 70, display the trophies they won at the Scatacook District Pinewood Derby. The district includes all of the Newtown, Sandy Hook, Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield, Redding, and Ridgefield Scout Packs. To participate, the boys first had to win their Cub Scout Packâs local pinewood derby race for their scouting rank.
