WESTPORT 80, NEWTOWN 63: Ronnie Shimko poured in 21 points, hitting 8-of-10 from the field (including a pair of three-pointers), but Westport was too much. Andrew Fiscella added 20 points and eight rebounds as Brian Smith dished out five assists. Devon Manfredonia scored nine points and Dave Anderson contributed seven.
NEWTOWN 81, WOLCOTT 30: Newtown raced out to a 27-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Andrew Fiscella scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and eight steals in the effort. Ronnie Shimko and Devon Manfredonia tossed in 13 points apiece while Dave Anderson chipped in with 12. Matt McFadden grabbed 13 rebounds and Ross Coates added five.
Girlsâ 8th Grade
NEWTOWN 54, WAKEMANâS 44: Newtown finally defeated a very, strong Wakeman team. Newtown did trail by as much as 12 points in this game, but the rebounding efforts of Stephanie Logan and Kelley_Haines, and the quick ball movement of Trina Ramsdell and Julie Iwanicki, Newtown was able to rally. Haines led the way with 18 points, followed by_Iwanicki with 15 and Tori Filler with 13.
FAIRFIELD 42, NEWTOWN 41: Newtown rallied from a 16-point, halftime deficit but fell just short. Julie Iwanicki scored 18 points while Kelley_Haines added 14. Erin Murdoch was tough on defense and Trina Ramsdell popped in a three-pointer in the crucial third-quarter rally.
NEWTOWN 41, NEW_CANAAN 13: Kaitlyn Murphy and Elissa Ballard keyed the defense. Kelley Haines scored 12 points with Erin Murdoch chipping in with eight. Stephanie Logan added five.
NEWTOWN 54, WESTPORT 28: Stephanie Logan dominated in the post position, blocking several shots, and Tori Filler dominated the defensive boards to lead Newtown to the win. Kari_Frawley also played well on defense. Julie Iwanicki and Kelley Haines combined for 33 points.
Boysâ 6th Grade Travel
CHESHIRE 32, NEWTOWN 31: Drew Harmata scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Newtown was nipped by Cheshire on a three-point shot in the final seconds. Drew Adamek added six points. Alex Caruso led the defense.
FAIRFIELD 57, NEWTOWN 37: Brian Shimko and Steve Neylon combined for 16 points to lead Newtown in a loss against Fairfield. Tommy Wilson dished off four assists. Mark Ingerman and Shimko were strong off the glass, combining for 20 rebounds.
Boysâ 5th Grade
NEWTOWN 37, WESTPORT 29: Ryan McGrath and Kevin Regan controlled the boards and combined for 20 points as Newtown came from behind to win. Joey DeVellis added six points while Cody Shpunt had a solid all-around game.
NEWTOWN 37, EASTON 28: Newtown avenged an early season loss as Ryan McGrath had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Michael Klein and Jack Quinn scored five points apiece while Joey Bowen chipped in with four points.
Girlsâ 5th/6th Grade Travel
SOUTHBURY 26, NEWTOWN 22: A tough Southbury defense kept Newtown in check. Kacy Foehrenbach scored eight points while Melissa Mason and Maggie DeMarco played well on defense, combining for eight steals.
NEWTOWN 23, EASTON 10: A great defensive effort held Easton to just 10 points. Kacy Foehrenbach scored 10 points while Ciara Simek chipped in with five. Nicole Sieber and Christie Iwanicki had fine defensive efforts.
NEWTOWN 42, DANBURY 13: Newtownâs offense got untracked, while the defense once again played extremely tough. Ciara Simek had the hot hand, pumping in 12 points to lead Newtown. Kristi Nowak had 15 rebounds while Nicole Sieber, Darcy Fiscella and Simek combined for 12 steals.
NEWTOWN 28, NEW FAIRFIELD 16: Kristi Nowak, Ciara Simek and Kate Levasseur combined for 20 points to lead Newtown past New Fairfield. Kacy Foehrenbach and Rose Jackman controlled the boards while Christie Iwanicki did a fine job on defense.
NEWTOWN 24, MONROE 12: Despite being out-sized, Newtown put forth another strong defensive effort and kept a larger Monroe team off the boards and in check on offense. Kacy Foehrenbach and Kristi Nowak controlled the boards while Maggie DeMarco and Nicole Sieber combined for seven steals and forced numerous turnovers. Ciara Simek led all scorers with eight points.
