Native American Dream Imagery At IAIS
WASHINGTON â The Institute for American Indian Studies has opened its newest temporary art exhibit, âTimeless Journeys â The Paintings of Joan LaRocca,â in the George A.G. Darlow Exhibit Hall at IAIS.
The exhibit features watercolor originals and limited edition signed and numbered giclee prints, along with several laser prints by Ms LaRocca.
Ms LaRoccaâs work is characterized by Native American and dream imagery woven together in meticulously executed watercolor images. The works often feature multiple layers of transparent images embedded within the total design, providing a complex viewing experience and drawing the viewer deeper and deeper into the painting. Ms LaRocca has exhibited widely throughout Connecticut.
âTimeless Journeyâ is accompanied by the works of students at Chippens Hill Middle School in Bristol, where Ms LaRocca and her colleagues teach art.
The two collections will be at IAIS through June 9. It is included in the regular admission fee of $4 for adults and $2 for children ages 6 to 16.
For additional information, call IAIS at 860-868-0518. The museum, which is at 38 Curtis Road in Washington, is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from noon to 5 pm.
