A Blood Drive With Heart

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Newtown High School Government I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to making this year’s Annual Red Cross Blood drive a great success.

This year’s drive was one of the best yet and was made possible with the amazing support of the administration, faculty, staff, and students of Newtown High School. There were 117 volunteers between students and faculty members and we collected 80 pints of blood. There were also a number of students who were unable to donate blood but contributed by preparing food for the donors. The drive went so well that the head nurses asked us if we wouldn’t mind running two drives next year because this was one the best high school drives they had seen.

Many thanks to the teachers for allowing us to share classroom time to recruit volunteers to donate, the custodians for helping us set up and clean up, the faculty members and students who baked and brought in food, the administration for their continued support, the physical education teachers for allowing us to use the gym all day, the staff of the Red Cross who came to help, and all the students and faculty members who took time out of their day to donate blood and save a life. This is just one more reason to be proud to be a student at Newtown High School.

Sincerely,

Alex Helfer

President of NHS Student Government
