A Better Looking Budget
A Better Looking Budget
To the Editor:
If there were a well-thought-out alternative to Governor Dannel Malloyâs plan to balance the state budget with huge tax increases on our backs, would you want to know about it? Well, those of us who are already âtaxed-to-deathâ are in luck! State Republicans have proposed a plan that they call the âNo Tax Increaseâ budget. Iâve checked it out on ctsenaterepublicans.com. and you might want to, too. Gee, a plan that solves our fiscal problems without raising taxes. Now thereâs a concept! Here are a few of the highlights:
*No new taxes on any business, individual, employer, service or goods.
*More than $1.5 billion more spending cuts than Gov Malloyâs plan.
*Preservation of municipal aid at current levels for all towns and cities.
*Enhanced Medicaid fraud detection to save an estimated $224 million.
*More than $46 million in savings through agency consolidations.
*Full restoration of the $500 property tax credit.
*Elimination of longevity payments for state employees.
*No borrowing for state operating expenses.
*Streamlining government through attrition and reductions to the 54,000 member state workforce.
I donât know about you, but Iâm mighty sick of politicians who want to do the easy thing and just take more of our money in huge tax increases. I resent being told by the ruling Democrats that I have to âshare the painâ! No thanks! I want better, and this proposed budget plan sure looks better to me. Maybe you want to check it out, too.
