Summer Series At Kettletown And Southford Falls
SOUTHBURY â The 2000 Summer Interpretive Series is underway at Kettletown and Southford Falls State Parks in Southbury. As in the past, five programs will be offered weekly between the two parks.
In addition, this year will bring bike hikes on the Larkin State Bridle Trail. These hikes, to be offered bimonthly beginning June 22, will allow families to learn about some of the natural history of the area while biking the popular trail.
For information on bike hikes, or other programs, contact park interpreter Lisa Monachelli at 264-5678. Riders under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and helmets are required for everyone. Also, riders should bring water and a snack lunch.
Celebrate the upcoming full moon on Saturday, June 17, with a âFull Moon Festival,â beginning at 8:30 pm at Kettletown Park. Bring a blanket, sit out under the stars, and join park staff for stories and activities about the moon. Some speak of the man in the moon, others believe the moon holds a frog, rabbit, or coyote. Discover how the moon is represented in many cultures. The program will begin at the Camp Office. Kettletown Park is on Kettletown Road; follow signs to the parkâs main entrance.
The Southford Sundays series will begin on June 18 with âStorytelling at the Pondâ at 11 am. Native American tales about frogs, snakes, and more will be told. Participants will also make their own totem rocks to take home with them. Southford Falls is on Route 188; follow signs from Route 67.
For more information, or to register for programs, or for the full schedule of summer programs, contact Lisa Monachelli at 264-5678. Programs are free, donations are accepted. Please note, there is an entrance fee at Kettletown on weekends.
