WANTED: Young Book Reviewers,
Correspondents, And Artists
If you're one of the first 25 kids to participate, you win a ticket to a movie
at Edmond Town Hall. But everybody wins, because you'll be able to log onto
the computer and see your opinions and creative work on the Web pages of The
Newtown Bee . (There will be other cool prizes offered during the year, too.)
We're creating a big section just for kids and we need your help.
Right now we need kids of all ages to sign up to be book reviewers so we can
start a section, The Bookworms' Tree House. Of course, the bookworm is not one
of the bugs who meet a yucky fate on the windshield of cars and buses - those
described in the book, The Gunk On Your Car . This new book by biologist Mark
Hostetler talks about how to identify the bug that has been reduced to a splat
on the car, but also offers some facts about and games relating to nature.
Does this sound like your kind of book? If so, we want you to read it and tell
us what you think. We will be getting in picture books, YA books, and other
material. Anyone who wants to be a book reviewer should call Andrea at The Bee
(426-3141) to sign up and get copies of new books as we receive them.
We are also looking for Cool Correspondents who can tell us about interesting
things in Newtown, travels to other places, projects you've worked on for
Scouts, pet tricks, and anything else that's of interest. CCs don't
necessarily have to live in Newtown - some kids who have moved away have
already told us they want to tell us about their new hometown.
Kid's Express is the place where you can tell us just what you think. The logo
is a train, because it's part of the Web that's on the move! We'll post your
opinion pieces and invite other kids to respond. You may want to tell us if
you're bored with Friday's school lunch menu, and offer a suggestion for
something better. Or maybe you want to know if any kids have walked on the
Rail Trails in Newtown and which section they liked best or need ideas for
community projects.
Ask The Aardvark - that's where you'll find answers to almost any question. If
you're agonizing over zits, want to know how bumble bees fly, or need some
suggestions on how to handle the bully on the bus - just drop Aardie a note.
The aardvark will post and answer some questions on the Web every week.
We will have contests and prizes, puzzles and jokes, art shows, links to other
great Web sites, and much more!
We'll put some of everything in the paper, too, for those of you who can't
easily access the Internet. The main thing is, though, we want as many kids as
possible to participate. So talk to your teachers and parents, then give us a
call.
We also want your suggestions so we can add more sections to the Kids' Web
pages of The Bee .
