Avid Golfer

Muriel “Mimi” Downey, 80 of Shelton, a retired operator for SNET, died December 15, at St Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport, January 28, 1929, she was a daughter of Henry and Esther Carlberg Burritt and was a longtime Trumbull resident before recently moving.

Survivors include her husband, John T. Downey; two daughters, Betsy Ryan and her husband, Fred, of Newtown and Susan McElroy and her husband, Larry, of Trumbull; and four grandchildren.

Mrs Downey was a graduate of Bassick High School and received an associate’s degree from Shenandoah University in Virginia. She was an avid golfer and member of the Mill River Country Club.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all her doctors and nurses at St Vincent’s, especially the dedicated staff in the Intensive Care Unit.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, December 17, from 4 to 8 pm, in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. All other services will be conducted privately.
