Conservation Commissioner Wanted
The first selectmanâs office is calling for interested qualified candidates to fill a vacancy on the Conservation Commission. That seat is open to a Democrat or unaffiliated voter.
Interested parties have until July 19 to submit a letter of interest and a resume to the Office of the First Selectman, Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown CT 06470.Â
The anticipated date of appointment is August 2. The following is a brief description of the committee:
The Conservation Commission holds its public meetings on the second and forth Tuesday of each month at the Newtown Municipal Center, Shared Meeting Room 3, and encourages public participation. The commission actively is researching how to protect more land and welcomes information regarding future open space donations and purchases.
The commission works proactively to identify potential open space opportunities. Commissioners walk potential open space and rate it as to desirability for the town using a standardized rating scale.
The commission then discusses the various properties at the regular commission meetings, rank the properties in order of desirability for the town, and present the results to the Board of Selectmen with recommendations as to acquisition.
