HealingNewtown Shelves Some Programs, Adds Others
HealingNewtown has cancelled a few of its upcoming programs, including one that was scheduled for this weekend.
Creative Storytelling, which was to have taken place Sunday, May 18, has been cancelled. Also off the schedule for the arts program are Asian Brushwork Painting sessions scheduled for Sundays, May 25, June 28, July 13 and August 17. A hands-on ukulele workshop on Sunday, June 1, is also off.
Meanwhile, HealingNewtown continues to offer Open Studio Saturdays each weekend from 1 to 3 pm, where visitors of all ages are welcome to create with clay, paint, drawing, collage, etc. A $5 donation is suggested. (Note: there are no sessions planned for June 7, July 12, August 9 or September 6.)
Through May 19, Spring Weaving Workshops will also continue. All levels are welcome, and help is available for beginners. Registration and a $10 donation is requested, with part of the proceeds to be donated to HealingNewtown’s Summer Arts Program.
Open Studio: Close-Knit Group continues on Thursdays until June 26. Guests can bring projects they have already started, or browse through donated yarns and begin something new, whether knitted, crocheted, woven or embroidered. Weaver Hanna Roehrs is on hand with a sampler loom for demonstrations and information. All ages and experience levels are welcome. A $5 donation is requested.
On Sunday, June 7, a monotype printmaking workshop will be offered from 7 to 10 pm. Virginia Zimmerman, from The Center of Contemporary Printmaking, and others from the center, will lead students on an exploration of the intuitive, flexible and fast printmaking technique. Registration is requested; send email to artshealingnewtown@gmail.com. A $10 donation is requested, payable at the door.
The Painted Table, with Roger Hutchison, will be offered on Sunday, June 22, from 2 to 4 pm.
The Painting Table is an open-ended art experience for children and adults, to experiment with art materials together at a table. It often leads to deeper conversations and connections. The one rule of The Painting Table is that participants must use their hands instead of brushes to apply paint. No experience or training is needed to participate.
