Dunkin' Donuts Dodges The Wrecking Ball

Buildings have fallen all around it and the dust still flies, but Dunkin'
Donuts remains open for business in the Queen Street Shopping Center.
The soon-to-be-open Big Y Supermarket continues to go up directly behind the
donut shop, which sits all alone in the center of the parking lot. According
to owner Rich Barillari, the store will eventually be moved down near the
former A&P building, which will house the CVS pharmacy.
"It's like a war zone in here," Mr Barillari said Wednesday. "We've lost a lot
of business due to all the construction, but we're hoping this will all be
over soon."
The Dunkin' Donuts store was originally scheduled to be knocked down with the
others, but Mr Barillari, his wife Patricia, and third owner, Dominic Cisero,
managed to remain open after coming to terms with shopping center owner Joe
Kasper. They will continue serving donuts until their new space is complete
sometime around Thanksgiving.
Mr Barillari said he has seen a reduction in sales during the transition
because of the construction, especially the repaving of the parking lot and
the digging in front of the building.
The Main Moon was open for business as late as last weekend, but the Chinese
restaurant was reduced to a pile of bricks on Monday. It will eventually be
relocated within the shopping center.
