Veronica O. Varian, 81, of Newtown, died March 5 in Danbury Hospital. Mrs Varian was the wife of the late James J. Varian. She was born in Stamford on August 28, 1925, a daughter of John T. and Sara (Dobson) O’Brien.

Mrs Varian is survived by a son, James J. Varian, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Newtown; a daughter, Patricia McAuliffe and her husband, Raymond, of Monroe; and a brother, John T. O’Brien and his wife, Evelyn, of Madison; she is also survived by three grandsons, David McAuliffe and his wife, Denise, of New Jersey, Christopher McAuliffe and his wife, Jaime, and Sean McAuliffe and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Oxford; a granddaughter, Lisa Pohorylo and her husband, Brian, of Hebron; and three great-grandsons, Connor, Curtis, and Christopher McAuliffe. She was predeceased by a daughter, Doreen Tarantino; and a sister, Mary Bump.

She resided in Greenwich for some 25 years before moving to Newtown. She was a longtime bookkeeper for Pitney Bowes until her retirement.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown and in St Mary’s Church, Bethel, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in St Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
